  1. In my experience Intel duel cores run mighty hot.
  2. Yeah, I'm sick of people telling me Linux is crap 'cos it doesn't have directx.
  3. 5 why do i get the feeling that knowing stuff like this is completely useless in the information age....not that it ever was any real use. http://www.borrett.id.au/computing/petals-j.htm just thought I'd add this, see if it drives anyone insane.
  4. personally i use chmod to hide my porn, but then i am su
  5. ahh the blame culture, one of my favourate American imports along with pretending you're black and no concept of irony.
  6. Well as far as sever side goes, theres no real need for opengl and i know some people set it up with no real problems. i just found it clunky and unnecessarily complicated (compared to the likes of MS VM). Using the SuSE yast plugin to configure it probably didn't help. Its just a little much for fun on your desktop. Linux is the only OS officially supported (when i last checked). The idea is nice but it needs work on configurablity (is that a word) and the network and drive detection. But i suppose it is free and open, if anything open software has more potential for improvement than closed source.
  7. The kernel module is a nightmare, just getting opengl support is half a bottle of coke worth of work. Its picky about what and how you install an os, thats as far as i got 'cos it wouldn't let me install from CD or network. That was a few versions ago, but in general i found it very irritating one fix would create another bug and fixing that would just void the original fix. I gave up after two nights work with very little to show for it. If you try it let me know how it goes.
  8. yeah anything form a few minutes, to a few thousand years (brute force, insanely long, big character set)
  9. Mother warned me about girls like you. 'king gnash, why cant they just release a 64bit flash and be done with it.
  10. Being as how I'm quite happy with the size of my manhood, i feel no need to tart up my computer. However i would say that for an uber gaming box you should have fans, lots and lots of fans, liquid cooling scares me. yeah, i was confused about windows vs Windows.
  11. If ever there was a place for IPTV bashing this it it. 14 huh, i suggest learning to write batch, its not particularly hard, you feel you get results fairly fast and it encourages you to use the command line and learn switches. HTML is also fairly easy, not that its used on its own much any more but it'll lead to an interest in xhtml, php, mysql and such. Not to mention setting up you own webserver which helps with a basic knowledge of ports, remote connection and basic admin.
  12. Back to KDE for me. fresh install, just the basics, but check out my new RAID array.
  13. My god that is the best thing i've read this year. My hat goes off to you sir.
  14. Yeah, in all fairness windows isn't as bad as they say, i'm using it now 'cos my X server is down and vi is trying to make me go on a killing spree. Its very good for games and applications. It just lacks the layerd build and fall backs of linux, no swiching to another term or simply killing the desktop when it crashes. and its just so damn boring. If you want to use your applications windows is fine, if you want to use your computer use a *nix. I'm with Cooper on this one, don't use a *nix if you want to look cool or hate windows, use it if you want to learn. In terms of stability, a well maintained Windows system is just a stable as a good *nix system and a badly maintained *nix system is far more unstable than a even the worst windows systems. However a well maintained *nix box will beat windows in uptime and (depending on the task) speed.
  15. ok, maybe your right. comparing the US to germany is wrong (thats nazi germany for any germans present) i dont know whare that came from. *cough* lame excuses for unfounded aggression *cough* Yeah iraq was harsh, but you can't invade a sovereign country because you don't like the governments policies. Also it is a little hypocritical of the US to overthrow an unelected, agresive right-wing leader who has ordered the deaths of countless prisioners on charges against the state. However if you are a US or other coalition citizen and feal this war is justified then you should be proud. we're winning.... or so we're told I don't think its justified and i wont be perswaded otherwise. 9/11 that was 5 years ago, traced to terriorists and caused a war in afganistan. The only link i can see with Iraq is that Iraq never condemned the attacks. How many people have died now in afganistan and iraq on both sides? or is the life of a new york businessman worth more than that of a poor middle eastern muslim. or US soildier for that matter.
  16. I always thought VB was very close to the OS and there in lies the problem.
  17. Yeah and the Germans just like 'breathing space'. Seriously though the bit about flexing is quite true, the bit about fixing mistakes is arguably viable, but the bit about prevention... prevention of what? All we've done (yeah we're there too, don’t forget about us) is start a civil war and flair up religious tensions. It wasn't great or particularly free (by western standards) when we got there but its a hell of allot worse now. They are sweet. Quite true, but a wouldn't call it racially motivated, more xenophobia. Lets face it we hate everybody and the French and Americans also rate quite highly on the list. They are the same race as us..... Apparently
  18. errrm C, borland turbo C is free now. or so i heard.
  19. Just get a cheap, slow, headless box with passive cooling. Stick a small distro or win98 on it. Should do the job plenty good. That way if you get bored of your web server you can use it as file server or game server and so on. Specialist hardware is so inflexible.
  20. yeah, but they also thought it would be funny
  21. Yeah, I've tried those as well. I have a feeling that it's just going to be more complicated that it's worth. I don't know much about windows, what happens if you try the password hash instead of the actual password? Also does windows not have any cmd keys or something. I had a similar problem on Linux. http://www.hak5.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t...p;highlight=ssh
