  3. Computers, err... well... Around 1999, all my friends had computers except me, and I was getting really pissed off that my mum couldnt affort one. She ended up meeting this guy who was a -insert important IT job- and we got a cheap one. It was really shite, 6 years old, but I used it all the time, but dialup was a pain. I put up with dialup for about a year and did little more than chat and build the odd site in front page lol In 2000, we moved in with that same guy and he had a company connection so I got ISDN!!! omfg how leet was that! lol... so I got into online gaming, Diaspora, Continuum, Counter-Strike 1.5, and a bit more web dev. One day he came back from work with a report from his company, it turned out I was the company's largest bandwidth user BY FAR! rofl! he got spanked. In 2002, I got royally pissed off with that old PC. So I gave my 9 year old PC to my mum, and decided to splash out with my savings. I bought an uber fantastical eMachines 570!! It had a stunning GeForce 4MX 440! By this point i've moved to doing all my work on PC, playing more games, building more sites. Despite what you might think, that machine was awesome, I only just replaced it this year. So in 2004 I fucked off to uni, met a bunch of gamer friends who had far better machines. I'm currently in my final year of BSc Internet Computing. To be fair, it's pretty lame, but shit happens. I'm bored of this story now. Point is... I was smarter than everyone else as a kid, so they all hated me, so the computer was a nice thing to keep me busy while I hid away from everything.
  4. you quite blatantly selected the wrong language during some installation or other.

    Go Vista?

check those manufacturer websites for vista drivers, if they have them you'll probably be alright... but you'll almost certainly run into incompatibility with something else down the line.

  8. I wouldnt say ive taken off into the hacker community at all, i've never hacked anyone. I just find I learn the odd thing or two from the show and forums.
  9. i keep things like hak5 episodes on my external drive. more current things like uni work get backed up onto dongle every time i edit.
  10. Alright i've just watched the show, a bit light on the hacks but a very nice improvement from beta1. The link to the xvid file might need checking, I had to strip off the tracker thing in order to download the file. -shrugs-
  11. Darren, assuming you broadcasted at 3PM EST, then everything you said is fine :)
  12. That's all well and good, but when is the show going to be available for download?
  13. and i'll add the widescreen movie factor!
  14. on the other hand, having two monitors annoys me, im much happier just dealing with one. i suppose the point is, if you already have a 17", you can just add another one? if your monitor died, go for the single wide one.

    Sound Card

Which of these sound cards should I get? They both appear the have the same chip, although the music version appears better build quality, the gamer version has a heat sink on the chip, the music version has an extra port, and is a larger card. Price is negligable, one is retail, one is oem. Here are the choices, place your bets now! 22. from what ive read i'd say it's the cache on the hard drive in question, whichever it is. hard drives do die as im sure you know. flashing ur bios is fairly straightforward if you're familiar with reconfiguring the bios, just head over to http://www.asus.com/ i'm sure there's some instructions. doesnt sound like your ram, but do you have any spare ram about to eliminate that?
  23. If it's an external drive, it's fucked: "I received a delayed write failure error messages while copying data from an internal large capacity (200 GB) hard drive to a large capacity (250 GB) Maxtor drive connected to a USB2 enclosure. After copying about 60 GB data, the delayed write failure messages kept coming and the transfer slowed to a halt. I did some research on Google which referenced all kinds of issues and partial solutions. But all I had to do was connect the 250 GB drive internally through the IDE interface and the data transfer was flawless. It appears to be either a buffer or a cache issue and the USB2 transfer for large amounts of data caused problems that the internal transfer didn't. My data is now safely backed up on a hard drive and stored in a bank safety deposit box." OR Maybe you need to tweak your BIOS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330174 OR Maybe you need a new hard drive: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/115418
