  4. How to Geek has an article up with links on booting android on a netbook using unetbootin to setup the usb drive. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/22665/run-a...ook-or-desktop/ I have played around with it on a Dell Mini9, and everything worked except the wireless. It is a touch screen OS, but responds very well to the mouse and keyboard
  5. I would agree, custom is the way to go. this seems to be the way to get the most for your money. plus, its hard to ask anybody on brands because one persons gold standard is anothers garbage. Plus, you are really paying alot for what amounts to a name brand. Not saying that some of them do not offer good product, but the two factors i take into account are cost and the freedom to purchase and install your prefered components. plus its too much damn fun to build your own
  6. I think this is mostly an experimental season, with Matt leaving the show, Shannon heading back to Missouri to take care of family, and Darren hitting the road to take on the task of making Hak5 his full time career in San Francisco. Give it time, once he gets settled in SF, and from what i have heard (in irc from Darren himself) he will have access to a shop (interestingly enough full of powertools), so once things get situated and get going, i think with him fully committing all his time and energy and to the show, it will only go up from there. Give it time, things change and the cast is working hard to adapt, but im sure the payoff will be worth is.

  9. we had a user who was a supervisor for nearly a decade at my last job, and he never knew how to press ctrl alt del, he would always have someone do it for him, for several years. as an exchange admin, we had several users who stored important email in the deleted items folder....we discovered this when we set exchange to empty that folder when outlook was closed, alot of phone calls. a user who said her computer wouldnt power up, went to her office, pressed the power button and it came up, and she said oh, i never use that power button (she would press power on the monitor) i could go on and on, the joys of working as a sys admin / helpdesk

  11. I almost forgot, if you want it to simply boot back into the magellan interface, remove the sd card and do a soft reboot.
  12. Last year I purchased a refurbished older model GPS (got it cheap). A Magellan Roadmate 2200t whose core OS is Windows CE 5.0. I installed the XOverCE hack (no, i didnt write it, wish i was that good actually) and now have access to the Win CE interface, and am able to use it as a touch screen device, with the ability to not only play music or view photos, but also read word files, pdfs, as well as a few 3rd party gps apps, and have the ability to install certain other Win CE touchscreen apps. The website where I found this information and the download is as follows: GPSPassion XOverCE (it lists a crossover 2500, but that is basically a 2200t with upgraded firmware, which I already did to this gps) The only other item needed is an SD card (for both backup up your gps and installing XOverCE) 1. Download the XoverCE.zip file, and unzip 2. Copy the files to the sd card (make sure that DM.exe, micManager.exe, micManager.mscr, and Mortscript.exe are in the root of the sd card) 3. While gps is on, insert the sd card, and do a soft reboot (press the reset button on the bottom left side of the unit) 4. When it reboots, it will ask if you want to install the unlock or boot to the Magellan Shell, select "Install" and wait, the unit should reboot on its own If everything goes well, it should boot up into a Windows style interface, and the link listed gives information on how to install apps, change backgrounds, etc. I like having this access on an otherwise very outdated GPS unit, and am curious to see what others will do with this.
