  1. *sigh*

Ways that any account can get hacked:

    • You told some one your password
    • Your password is easy to guess
    • You told some one your email account password
    • Your email account password is easy to guess
    • Your computer has malware on it that is stealing passwords and other information
    • You set your account secrete question to have an answer some one could guess
    • You set your email account secrete question to have an answer some one could guess
    • (Specific to WoW:) You gave some one enough information about your bank account that they are able to call blizzard pretending to be you

If you have repeatedly had your account stolen, start again, start by reinstalling the OS (!from a known good source!), changing all your passwords and secrete questions. Further more it would be wise to cancel any bank/credit cards and have new ones reissued, you might also have to get the account number changed.

    you forgot phishing attacks/social enginerring

  2. WD 1TB Black editions run for about 99US$

Also, Intel x25m SSD's are mint, good price/performance ratio.

oh ok ill definitely have a look

Windows 7 64bit. Never really liked Linux. Tried again recently to get along with it but it's just so different I get lost so get annoyed :)

oh ok i run arch linux on my laptop xD

Are you buying these parts from a local computer store or from the internet. Cause If you buy from the internet, shop around because and you could find pats a lot cheaper. That's how I do anyway.

im buying them all through a store we(my work) are affiliated with but any extra pars i'd get ill do more shopping around

  3. Double the memory (or if you can't afford to, plan your current purchases with a mind to do so), and consider getting a Dell UltraSharp 2209WA and replacing the HDD's with WD Black Edition models (faster and a 5 year warranty).

yeah the monitor doesnt matter so much, that isnt actually for me only the tower and all other parts.

how much extra are western digitals? and yes in time i planned on upgrading the ram to 8 or 12 gb and getting another hdd or 2. if WD would serve this better i can format and re-install to the WD but it would depend if i could get them in .au and how much they would be

  4. lo-jack for laptops... software base but at least you would have some hope; That is if the person who stole it is a moron with a password. Anyways you could go about it like you would a lost dog. post posters with reword if found.

    Good luck.

prey tracker is a free edition of it

  5. I already read it but I don't use a wlan connection I use a LAN connection. But yea it's kinda the same problem.

What does it do ? capture packets from all clients in your area?(even if your not connected to the AP?)

I forgot to mention I use wireshark on windows 7, also tried in backtrack (4) but no luck. so it's not related to the OS. I think there will be something wrong with my network(well wrong, clad my network is save lol) Today I will test it out somewhere. Stay tuned!

no it mitm's all the users on the AP

you HAVE TO BE ON THE AP FIRST so you need to go back a step

  6. Thatis what wireshark does, it captures packets on your machine from your NIC, locally. To see packets on the network that aren't yours, one of two things need to be in place depending on if you use wired or wireless.

Wired: 1, you need to be using a hub which broadcasts packets to all nodes on the hub, or 2, MITM another node on the same subnet.

Wireless: MITM a client on the same subnet, or 2, have a wireless card that can do monitor mode and see all the packets in the air(so long as they are not encrypted, ex: wep or wpa). Now to do the monitor mode, most nics will require you to use Linux, but only if the card is supported for Monitor mode. Windows can do it with special cards but also reuire custom drivers unless you go with something like Cace Airpcap cards which work with Wireshark natively in windows: http://www.cacetech.com/products/airpcap.html

    more like ettercap -i wlan0 -Tq -M arp:remote // //

so then you get ALL clients :D

  7. The best thing you can do it use TOR. However, as the TOR download page says "Tor does not magically encrypt all of your Internet activities.", because nothing can. You would need to start a new Internet for that to be possible.

i thought tor was more anonymity?

Yeah, I agree! But you should not be entirely relying on HTTPS for everything.

yeah im not saying that, im just saying sslstrip isnt that great as its a bit of a giveaway if the website should be https and you would see the S and the lock sign and neither are there

  8. thanks for asking this nivong!

I was just playing around on wireshark in BT4 and was wondering why I was only seeing MY traffic and not the wife's who was on her netbook in the other room! I had not set my alfa to monitor mode to listen to everything!

I love how much I can learn from reading on here and trying things!

    go re-read your topic

dont use monitor mode for MITM

  9. HTTPS may look secure, but can be defeated with SSL Strip.

HTTP, I guess you could tunnel all your HTTP traffic through SSH using a home VPS.

it cant be "defeated" it just means the page is altered, basically take note of what pages SHOULD be https and what shouldnt, if its not ssl encrypted then some one is fucking with you
