  1. The free version from piotrbania.com is the original kon boot version for 32bit windows. It will not work on 64bit. The retail version is for as small fee of 15.99 and gives email support along with 64 bit and windows 7 support. Avangate is our third party processor, and they handle all transactions. If you have a issue with billing, just contact support at avangate dot com or email our contact at kryptos and we will resolve it personally. we will be providing a few free tokens to hak5 for end users on our upcoming update next week. Thanks, Team Kryptos Logic

Regarding windows 7 on free version of kon boot, its a hit and miss. There is a bug associated with Win7 and the free version of kon boot. Sometimes it will work, and sometimes it won’t. The version of course does not have this issue. Main issues with Kon Boot which are being constantly worked on is: multidrive/multios and bios compatibility. So far the main compatibility issue is phoenix 2005 bios. This should soon be supported.

Think the 6 month license update description needs to be updated to be more clear. Subscription is not required, just allows 6 months downloads & support. It can be renewed, of course, and a discount is offered when you purchase renewals. Also, hak5 will be giving away a few licenses as prizes (I believe) on some episodes somewhere, but this code might be useful(expires apr 14): hak15percent .

6 month of support and updates. Correct. Not subscription based.

There is a small confusion. The Kon Boot free version is actually v1.0. The 2 in one packaged was incorrectly labeled 1.1, which it is not, so some zip files are floating around with the label 1.1, but the actual program itself is still v1.0. Kon Boot v1.1 from KryptosLogic.com is a updated version which is bug free with Windows 7. The next update will account for the phoenix bios issue. If you paid for Kon Boot with the label "v1.0", then this is a fraud site; however, if the splash screen is v1.1, then this is a valid Kryptos Logic version which is commercially available.

Kon Boot has been updated with numerous bug fixes, improvements, and support. The original free Kon Boot has some bugs, particularly with Windows 7. There are a few BIOS's which we are currently adding support for in some isolated cases; namely, select versions of phoenix 2005 bios. This is the only recorded BIOS (newer) which gives any problem. Of course, very outdated BIOS with small memory capability are not supported. The reason is simply not enough space/memory. Although, most of these older BIOS were for Win9X/ME and after XP was released, they have since been phased out. A new version (for a small fee) is available at the Kryptos Logic website, and I believe a few licenses will be given away sometime soon through hak5. On a side note, Kon Boot is not meant to compete or replace 0phtcrack or l0phtcrack, or any other password reset utility. Kon Boot is a password bypassing utility, leaving the original password intact. There are plenty of utilities to reset passwords which are freely available.
  7. Hello. Konboot will be updated next week with 64bit support, weak password identification, usb support, and all Windows OS support. Currently it does not support 64bit. It was also recoded from scratch to be cleaner/smaller.
