  1. no idea then lol......I'll get me coat oh digininja pmsl :D
  2. no not broken Ithink you have just unwittingly adjusted it.......Its been a while since I was at this but there is a post on how to "find" your pineapple again.....you may have changed its ip unwittingly. I'll have a look and see if I can find the post....2 ticks matey
  3. you can also use a max232 lead via a serial port......used this on mine and it worked very well, although it will require a lead to be made to match up the pin outs.....very easy to do. ;)
  4. I think the forum is fine as it is.....searching is all part of the fun. B)
  5. Thanks for the reply digininja :) Will look at what you have said the next time he comes round to my house. He just said out loud the error he got and I did not actually look at the fone itself so to see what was going on.I just asked him to try and connect directly to "open wrt" without karma enabled on jasager just out of curiosity really, as I have never tried to connect using a phone before. Will post back when I can and be a bit more specific with the results. B)
  6. H folks! :) I have a fon+ running jasager with ICS through my laptop on ubuntu 9.04.I have been doing a little testing at home using the "open wrt" ap broadcast from the fon+. My friend has an L.G chocolate mobile phone that is wifi enabled but when I ask him to connect through the "open wrt" ap he is unable to do so getting the error " unable to connect to known host" from his phone and connection is refused. All other computers in the house will happily connect 100% through "open wrt".......My question, obviously,is why does this happen with his mobile phone? B)
  7. I have to say that mooching is all part of the fun in my opinion.I have led myself in the wrong direction a few times, but I would say that was more my fault than the forums. However in doing so I have learnt a few things along the way that I probably would not have by doing it in this manner. The forum you have mentioned is,as you say, very good as I have visited that one myself but I will stand up for Hak5 here as this forum is a goldmine of information and has some very talented people about it.......O.K. it may not be the most organised, frilly, dancing lights forum around but who needs all that with the top talent and info it posesses!! :D Top marks from me Hak5..... ;)
  8. Awesome!!! Too much for me too take in.....but none the less a real mean looking piece of equipment! ;)
  9. pmsl @ digininja. I am not a total stranger to linux but only have a very basic idea when using it and frequently get things wrong as you have seen...lol. A while back I was experimenting with a program called commview for wifi on windows and what a waste of time that was. I soon learned that linux and a different set of tools worked much better and my success rate was massive, that was my first encounter with ubuntu. This problem with windows ICS has been an eye opener but also it has been fun along the way by learning a bit more about linux, having a peek around inside the fon and learning to edit files instead of using the webif gui. linux is getting the thumbs up from me! :D
  10. :D Got it!!!!! At long last clients connected to the fon can now enjoy full internet connection :) Everything works fine although I might move the static IP of the fon up the subnet a little. QUOTE:Just need to know where I am dropping packets then. My money is on the fon....but who knows??? WRONG! :o The fon was fine....no problem with it at all!! I can now see connected client macs and assigned IP's in the jasager interface. Internet working 100% ...no problems. :) How? Today I sat quietly eating pineapple, well actually it was a bacon buttie lol, and had a think about what digininja said about dropping packets. OK so out went the rule book...I pieced together an idea from parts of others and gave windows the boot. Off to ubuntu I went with my crude idea and set to work setting up ICS there instead....well what do you know? 10 minutes later connection up and running 100% :D I can't answer why ICS would not work for me in windows and I will probably never know as many others have succeeded where I have failed.I had tried ICS in ubuntu before and failed but now realise my fon was configured incorrectly and therefore that was the reason why. Thank you for your patience and help digininja.....You got me there in the end lol. B) time to move forward....phew!!
  11. Afternoon :) Tcp dump I have on ubuntu but have never really experimented with it apart from viewing the capture file from it with wireshark. Looks like I have some more reasearch to do then! Thanks digininja at least I know the IP and DNS set up is ok....Just need to know where I am dropping packets then. My money is on the fon....but who knows???
  12. Static IP on fon is set to 192.168.0.2 I was only going to run the dhcp server on my home router (AP) as I thought this would make it more realistic if I were testing this elsewhere and had no way of configuring the AP. It is quite annoying this little problem as the fon is obviously granting some internet access to connected clients. Google works ok,pictures maps, images etc and some websites will connect...some straight away....some slowly load and others not at all. If I plug my other pc into the ICS laptop ethernet nic, that the fon usually goes into, the connection shares 100% no problems indicating that the problem lies on the fon. I have done an ipconfig /all ,on the pc that shares 100% no problems through my ICS laptop, and replicated the settings for dns on the fon.....still the same problem. connected clients can also ping successfully google.com,4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8. Try doing that from the fon and there is no response.
  13. Thanx for the quick reply digininja :) My home router is set as dhcp server. So having my fon set at static IP keeps my subnet aligned nicely and would make no difference in connection apart from jasager not being able to see the IP's that are given out.....therefore dhcp is not my problem with connected clients only getting partial internet through the fon. If I were to set up dhcp server on the fon and at the same time run dhcp server on my home router there would be a big bang so to speak? Just trying to establish how things work a little more clearly and hopefully get to the bottom of this.
  14. So what are the advantages of setting the lan configuration connection type on the fon to dhcp and is this really necessary? My grounds for this question are if I set lan config to 'dhcp' the fon gets assigned an IP from the dhcp server.....this IP is always on the wrong subnet 1.xxx (coming from my home router) where as my subnet for ICS is on 0.xxx. (as it has to be) Am I getting mixed up here with running a dhcp server on the fon and simply setting the lan type to dhcp.....are they seperate things? I know I ask a lot of questions but I am determined to find out why this fon is accessing the net only partially through ICS. :P
  15. :) Had alook in /etc/config/network using vi cmd and under the section config 'interface' 'lan' I see........ option 'type' 'bridge' option 'proto' 'static' option 'netmask' '255.255.255.0' option 'ifname' 'eth0.0' option 'ipaddr' '192.168.0.2' option 'gateway' '192.168.0.1' option 'dns' '192.168.0.1' Can I not just edit the 'static' in line 2 to 'dhcp' using vi text editor and enable dhcp on the fon that way? @ digininja I can not find a file /etc/init.d------Get this error form vi /etc/init.d .... "etc/init.d" Not a regular file. I am most likely doing something wrong there but my linux is not that good.
  16. ok thanx :) Will have a look and see but won't touch unless I'm sure what I am editing. More interested in starting DHCP than disabling bridge at the moment....still at war with this fon+ and the "half internet syndrome" but managed to make a little progress yesterday. ;) I can see why linux rules in this area and should really make more effort in using it for more applications than I do.I have had real success using ubuntu and the aircrack suite of tools where it's performance is excellent. B)

  18. Hello and good morning all :) Just a quick question.......Is there any way to enable DHCP/bridged connection on the fon WITHOUT using the webif interface? I ask this because webif is causing nothing but problems for me when I try to enable DHCP on the fon. :(
  19. Going round in circles with this....lol Reconfigured the fon's lan dns to 192.168.0.1 and adjusted accordingly in /etc/config/dhcp. still the same!!! connected clients can search with google but nothing else will load. It's as if windows knows what the fon is doing and stopping it in it's tracks..... :( Digininja suggested putting the fon on the same subnet as my home router but this is impossible as ICS assigns an IP to the nic of 192. 168 .0.1 and if this is altered ICS shuts down! Ubuntu 9.04 is even worse and allows no access at all.....I am beggining to think the fon may be fooked! :o webif seems almost useless as when I use it to set DHCP on the fon it assigns a new IP to it and although I know what this IP is I can not gain access to the fon with this IP through putty and the fon is "jammed" with this new IP which is also preventing connection through ICS. I am going to have to re flash again as the fon has now locked itself up!!
  20. That makes sense and I can see how the pattern of numbers in the subnet aligns all the machines on it....just one problem remains with this solution. When ICS is set up on the laptop with win xp the ethernet nic that the fon goes into is automatically assigned an IP of 192.168.0.1 and this can not be changed. If you do so, manually, connection between the laptop and AP is lost.....so unless your AP is on a subnet of 192.168.0.xxx then internet connection sharing is not a possibility through windows from the fon......This is simple to correct in the home enviroment but I would imagine a little difficult in the field. :( Also if the fon is set to DHCP/bridged connection and you disable DHCP on windows because I read it is not a good idea to have two DHCP devices running together....again internet connection is lost between laptop and AP. It seems whatever way I go the door is closed????
  21. Hi m8 :) Only just got back on to the forum after some persistence due to the technical difficulties. Thank you for your help B) ok so my lan dns is wrong! I will reset and recommit the settings tomorrow and see what happens. I hope you are right as it looks like I could not see the wood for the trees.....lol Glad the forum is back up and running and my thanx to those involved with the repairs. :D
  22. I did that...ticked all the boxes when I set up ICS and clicked ok. Still connected clients can only view google. But if I plug my other pc into the ethernet nic instead of the fon on my ICS machine the connection shares 100% no problems???? strange don't you think?
  23. hmmmmmmm! ok .......so what would I do if,lets say I was out in the field somewhere and was using a free access point for my web connection and had no way of configuring it but that free access point was using 192.168.1.1 as most do....? Is this why windows serves up that Ip of 192.168.0.1 automatically? (can linux do different?) I wonder???? I get what you are saying now....correct me if I'm wrong. Because my fon is on 192.168.0.2...everything that follows after the fon must use the 192.168.0. xxx subnet. be it 192.168.0.199 or 192.168.0.5 or whatever on 192.168.0.xxx so long as it is not 192.168.0.1 (ethernet nic ip) or 192.168.0.2 (fons ip addy)? Have I got it right now? Thanx for you help and patience :D
  24. :D pmsl...... Your welcome. I'm a noob myself....You should have a look at some of my posts if you think yours are bad....lol :D However there are some very talented people on here who will help if they can. Big thanx to everyone who has put up with me so far....you know who you are!
