  1. Systm did a segment on some of that stuff just before is it was canceled one of the Linux solutions they used was mediatomb.
  2. I personally don't usually charge because I don't do it that often but I have never gone as far as building a new computer for someone else. I hate trying to remove virouses and spyware. Usually i just change a seting change and the problem is solved. It is amazing how computer iliterate someone can be and still use a computer. I guess o should be more cut throat and charge an arm and a leg like geek squad though but I couldn't live with myself if I did a half ass job like some places.
  3. I do think it is funny that they took the search term cloud off the homepage because it was clear that a great number of people were using the internet for porn.
  4. I was thinking about doing something similar as well and centralizing all my external HDDs. I thought about cutting corners using an Atom Board with a SATA card that didn't have built in raid, and use freeNAS's software RAID but I have no clue about the performance.
  5. Personally I think that is some pretty good music, helps me study for finals.
  6. I wouldn't say that I love my PC because then I would own a mac. I like it because it gets the job done other than that is a pissing contest about specs, OS, and brand name drop. I am sure I take it for granted that I am lucky enough to live in a capitalist system and can afford a notebook.
  7. Aside from being a complete distraction won't this just create a generation completely reliant on spell check. Furthermore I just hate taking tests on computers. One of the relatively local high schools where I grew up had a huge budget for computers and would get new ones nearly every year and students would just play video games 90% of the time. Even in my high school with old P3's we played Starcraft nearly every day. Then again I was home schooled during 7th grade and spent a lot of time on Xbox Live playing Unreal Tournament and watching neighbors renovate their home. I did learn quite a bit about construction. Even in College the laptop is too much of a distraction for most, if i recall correctly some schools estimated that social networking sites were more than 75% of their traffic at one point. Many of those 7th graders will learn a great deal about computing but no about the subjects their teachers want them too.
  8. In the US ATT's unlimited 3G data really means 5gb, anything after that is crazy expensive.
  9. Its good to secure one's WiFi connection but it won't stop them from hacking and any other anonymous ways to send email or go back to using the post office.
  10. I use an old AMD K6 Running FreeNAS it only has a 100W PSU and I doubt it uses that all the time.
  11. I think consumers should have a reasonable legal expectation of their notebooks not catching fire under any circumstances. Heat damage and abuse is the consumers fault, i see friends just throw their notebooks down on their bed with no ventilation and its amazing they don't have more problems with hardware failure but then they set it down on its side ripping the power off the mother board and want me to fix it. (I kinda wish that one would catch fire.)
  12. I would buy it because I am a slave to Steve Jobs.
  13. If she had windows she would just have every computer virus she could find.
