  1. I use Smoothwall as my firewall at home. It supports UPnP if you need that. I've used pfSense, Endian, custom IPtables with Ubuntu. Overall, Smoothwall has provided the most stable experience, and I enjoy tweaking it on occasion.
  2. Glad I'm not the only one who knew about it. By the way, I used a single license on 3 PCs for an entire year with Eset NOD32 v3 =p
  3. Yep. Existing NOD users can actually *ahem* (I shouldn't be saying this...) use a single license on multiple PCs. I know because I tried. Also, existing user accounts (EAV-xxxxxxx) get discounts when their subscription period ends. Not too sure on estimating the discount but I use NOD wherever I can. Otherwise, its AVG FREE X.x (Even though AVG is getting a bit bloated...) or *cringe* MS Security Essentials (For HOME PCs only). MSSE is decent for basic protection. I set up my family with a custom rig this christmas and used MSSE and Comodo Personal Firewall for basic protection, and there is almost 0 footprint on system performance when running MSSE in the background. Anyways, I hope all you NOD users are careful with the info given out above ^^^^ I've never used a single license on more than 3 PCs, so watch out. I don't know if they have an authentication limit similar to DRM.
  4. Kaspersky personal price: $59.99 USD a pop (Business editions you'll need to call 1-781-503-2620) NOD32 Home editions: $39.99 a pop (Business edition : ~$429 USD for 10 users.) Hope that helps.
  5. Forgot about that one. Vyper was in direct competition with ESET's product lines. I'd definitely check them out. I know I will be over the next few days, now. Thanks for the reminder!
  6. Symantec has gotten better. However, I prefer NOD32 or AVG's centralised client-server platforms. NOD32 has left no performance footprint on any machine I have used thus far. Check it out. We use Symantec Endpoint as a product for our customers where I work at, but I am seriously trying to move to a better client-server platform. NOD32: http://www.eset.com/products/nod32_business.php AVG: http://www.avg.com/us-en/business-security Check those out. Let me know how you like them.
  7. To follow up, HERE is a web 'VPN' client called Adito, which requires nothing more than a web browser. Extremely easy to set up and it can tie in to Active Directory if you are fighting that battle. I just installed an Adito server for a customer and its working great. They prefer a VPN Client, but loved the fact that there was a back up in place in case, as in your situation, VPN tunnels are blocked. Once Adito is installed, use the web config to set the server up, and verify that the Adito service was integrated during the install.
  8. Agree... I own a MBP from a few years ago. She's been nice to me, and its been fun messing around with Apple's Darwin *nix (although I prefer any Linux distro over the OS X kernel.), and the media editing perks are a definite plus if you're a movie editing/ photoshop junkie like me. IMHO, I would not buy again. Apple seems to have a kick going on where they completely obliterate their products 6 months after you purchase. Sure, one could say that about any PC/ laptop available, but the sting from that just has got me in a rut with Apple. First it was the Macbook, then I bought an iphone 3g, only to find out this past summer, they release the 3GS with full video capability right after I jailbroke mine. My .02: Get a killer laptop for the same price, install your favorite distro (and Windozzze if ya have to) and live free.
  9. Whoops! Sorry about that. Drop to a root shell and execute that command where net = your IP, etc.
  10. route add -net x.x.x.x netmask x.x.x.x gw x.x.x.x
  11. Awesome! Thanks. Definitely will be sharing this with those that do strange things like deleting their System32 folder or installing/ opening anything that's attached to any email they receive. Thanks again!
  12. Yep. AdBlocker would be nice. Smoothwall's 'ad-zapper' is doing okay (I use that term loosely), but not doing as efficient of a job as ABP does in Mozilla.
  13. Have you tried ssl stripping w/ Man in the middle? I don't know how far you're willing to go, but a few open source utils and WinPcap should do you good for what you're looking to get.
  14. Try this: OpenVPN I've been using it for a few weeks, and the community software is pretty solid.
