  1. If you are wanting to see more amateur Tesla coil builds, and other "mad Science" related stuff check out http://www.nada.kth.se/~asa/mad.html This is Anders mad science page with all kinds of crazy mad experiments and inventors.
  2. I am not sure if this will help, I found a POC on the Sploitcast forums that looks promising. http://www.milw0rm.com/exploits/1911 I am hoping this will be of some use to a real coder and help the project along.
  3. I have (and still use) solaris 10 on an old sparc ultra 5 workstation. the workstation is an antique and isn't breaking any land speed records so I cannot say much about the os's speed. That said, I am impressed with the structure of Solaris and have had no failures/crashes/locked processes with it. I am thinking of trying it on a faster machine soon to see how fast it is with all of the bundled software. Installing new programs is as easy as any linux system. If you are familiar with Linux you will be comfortable with it very quickly. It isn't my favorite OS but for the basics (web developement, internet surfing, and email) it works just fine. I would use it for a firewall or any other specialized use like that but it is a very well rounded OS. I hope this helps.
  4. Very cool, congratulations I hope it is a really good move for you.
  5. messing stuff up is not the point of learning to hack, learning how something is put together is what you should be learning. Just asking people how to do things is not how you learn anyway you research it yourself and try different things. if you get arrested iun the process you probably shouldn't have been doing it anyway. :?
  6. I just bought my wife a new laptop for basic gaming and school work. It is a compaq v3000z it isn't breaking any fps limits but it is playing Oblivion nicely as well as all the rest of her games. Whatever you get try to find the best Nvidia geforce go card or ATI. My wife had a 17 inch toshiba with a 3.33 ghz p4 with an intergrated graphics chip, it wouldn't even handle the 3d of the character builder.
  7. Whatever you do make sure you have a good rehab doctor and you follow their excercises. I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle, I dislocated my elbow as well as a myriad of other injuries. It was 6 months before I got the full use of my elbow back. Good luck with your rehab, it can be painful but when you need to stick your pinkie out while drinking your tea you will be grateful.
  8. I was looking for the schematics for the roomba mainboard. As this is a popular robot hack I am sure they are out there hiding.
  9. I beleive that some people also use their l337 tude to blow off questions they don't know the answer to. I asked a question about a circuitboard on IRC that was not easily searchable, I had already tried, from someone who claimed to be a wiz at that technology. Instead of just saying he didn't know where to find the schematics, I just got a n00b bashing sequence followed by a just.fucking.google.it I still haven't found my answer but will not go back to that channel again so they can be so l337 that they are alone. Now I know why there were 4 people in that room and noone was talking. <climbs back off soapbox>
  10. I would tell her what she always told me, Never trust a stranger, always look where you are going, nothing in life is truly free, and if it is too good to be true, it probably is. translated for you ubergeeks who no longer speak anything other than computers, if the email isn't from someone you know delete it, know the websites you are going to not whitehouse.com unless you want to see a recreation of the monica incidents, all of the popups promising free ipod, xbox flowers etc... are not going to give you anything, and if the car of your dreams is selling on ebay for 200 dollars it is a nightmare not a dream.
  11. This seems more like a good excuse to shut down any group that the governments disagree with. "oh those guys we just beat up and threw in a dark cell? They were terrorists" Then instead of questioning what they did to get such harsh treatment everyone should feel safe because the government will protect you from anyone who disagree's.
