  1. Depending on what you ultimately need to do, Untangle has WAN failover and much more. (Never mind, I see that it is a premium feature, not a free as in beer feature. Sorry.) http://wiki.untangle.com/index.php/Main_Page Give Astaro Security Gateway a shot.
  2. Check over at PortableApps.com, someone there might have gotten this to work.
  3. Agreed that TVersity/XP combo = win. FreeNAS = more win. FreeNAS used Mediatomb for a while, but uses FUPPES now. FreeNAS should be able to handle everything you need to do. I have 2 FreeNAS boxes at work (office side/bench side) and one at home. Love it.
  4. Holy sh*t! And I see this after I order the 2 1.5TB HDDs for my NAS...
  5. Need to either switch out the optical for an IDE version (you should have at least one channel) or slap in an expansion card.
  6. *blink blink* Oooohhhhh! Put it back! What a novel idea... Never thought of that. In my case I didn't need to, though. Just let 'em know we removed it to do our work. Every once in a while I get the "you can do that?!"
  7. I feel like backhanding you now, too. Why did you let me watch that?! ;) Gah! I feel dirty now. (and not in the good way...)
  8. I haven't had any luck with the Vista one, either. So how would one go about this? Keep in mind that in my case these are customer machines. All too often the during the intake process the non-technical office manager forgets to ask for the password. We trying calling the customer first, but sometimes you get one that doesn't call back for days (vacation, whatever). It would be nice if I could get the PW as easy as removing it.
  9. Best Buy *facepalm* It may be a pretty good price, but nothing matches the joy of the DIY. No, Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator has electrolytes. (It's what plants crave!)
  10. Methinks you are confused. They don't make it or sell it. Just post happy shiny pictures of PCs. http://www.murderbox.com/ made that one. So in essence you are correct! ;)
  11. I never realized how much cable management turned me on till right now...
  12. Reading the whole thread you find: Relax.
  13. Novell eDirectory (formerly called NetWare Directory Services, NDS) & GroupWise? *sigh* Agreed.

  15. I dropped in a UBCD4Win ISO I had made. Worked perfectly.
  16. I've had luck with WinImage in the past.
  17. I agree with the others about running chkdsk /r, but it seems we have to get you there first. Try "HDAT2" on the UBCD. It is under Hard Disk Tools > Diagnostic (I believe). All the way at the bottom of the list. It will take a while depending on how bad the disk is, and it will BEEP at EVERY error, but it has been a lifesaver for me in the past. When it finishes (if it shows bad sectors repaired) you should then be able to successfully run chkdsk. @MRGRIM - HDD Regenerator is a great tool to have around.
  18. Even the newest one? (3.39) http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6003
  19. Check this topic out, maybe it will help to see how they do it.

  21. Huh? HP/Compaq caused a fiasco because they were lazy when creating their images. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm] "Start"=dword:00000004 Adding this to the registry prevents/stops the boot loop. Intel isn't any better. Core i5? i7? And trying to figure out which Intel supports Win7 XP mode, what a mess!
