  1. this just goes to show... higher #s doesn't always mean better... I had the 4800 before... and the 5450 was on sale for about 50 bucks with a $20 MIR. BUT I think it will work for what I want it for lol
  2. awesome thanks guys! I ended up getting a ATI Radeon HD 5450 to work along side my 4850. The guy @ Micro Center told me the PC would probably not boot because the cards won't match (Wow where'd he get his training @) The one thing that caught me off guard is that the 5450 did not require the extra power connection like my 4850, but that currently saves me from having to get a bigger PSU. what I am aiming for is a setup like so 32 inch (or bigger) mounted on wall monitor monitor monitor the only thing I don't know about is if windows will let me set it so that if i drag a window UP if it will go up to the TV or if its all horizontal for screens.
  3. Hey guys, I'm currently running an i7 machine with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 and I am in need of more monitor space. My thoughts were to either try to find and buy the same model or just get something a little beefier. I was not planning on running them in SLI as the articles I have read show that SLI performance degrades after you start adding monitors. Just wanted to get some feedback on this as Im not sure how mix and matching the models will work out.
  4. which model is it? and does it use a sim card?
  5. I stumbled across this myself when looking for a NAS Solution that would stream media to my PS3, it actually runs off of fedora and you add their repository for installing the Amahi bundle over top of it, after that you need to punch in some installation code they give you for pre-configuration. I will be getting a PC pieced together to give this thing a whirl. I would love some input from others if they have any experience with this or if they have a great media streaming solution that doubles as a NAS, because Windows 7 and PS3 Media Server just doesn't cut the mustard.
  6. It puts the packets on the internet or it gets the hose again... Ok now that the bad jokes are out of the way, I have been looking around and have seen many people taking the plunge to IPv6. My question however is how secure is it REALLY? After watching the segment with Mubix using metasploit to gain access to a system and install IPv6 for later connectivity it has me a bit worried that IPv6 lacks security in a big way. Does anyone have any useful information, or helpful hints or "absolutely must do this" if you go IPv6?
  7. Use VMWare Player and select NAT as the network type, each virtual machine will act as a physical machine to your router. Also each VM will run in it's own window so you will still have your windows 7 or w/e your main os is to work in.
  8. Hello again guys! Here's one for you, I recently purchased two of these on special Micro USB Backup Battery Pack for Smart Phones, Cell Phones and Cameras (2800mAh) - Black As you can see it has charging ports for mini and micro USB, but only has a micro USB out. and I don' think it works the other way round for powering devices. So with that in mind and the fact that I can't find a female micro USB to female USB converter, I am thinking about just slapping something together real quick. my question is since I am only going to be charging devices that I have some sort of USB charger for to begin with, can I just do straight wire to wire? (red, blue, green, black) (or whatever the colors are in a standard cable) or will I need some crazy little array of components? My alternative is to find somewhere I can have a new case created and de-solder the micro usb male connector, and solder on a female USB connector. (If this thing had screws I would have probably done that to begin with!) So what's the idea/train of thought on this one? I would be charging a random number of devices from cell phones, headsets, and yes even my Nintendo DS thanks to a funky little cable I picked up at Gamestop. All of which would adhere to the USB standards for charging devices. Thanks
  9. here's a thought, although it may or may not work. In Episode 8x07 Darren had talked about running apps with X11 over SSH. So could you in theory run a windows application through wine over SSH to a windows box? I know that sounds odd, but it would work for this situation if the library is like the ones around here. They allow installation of applications and ghost at reboot.
  10. So I had an idea and found that it already is a common business practice for job seekers. As we all know it's a pain to keep a stack or even a few of your resumes with you at all times. So I found out about a Micro Resume, which is essentially a business card sized resume that simply has your name, contact information, and relevant skills. My question to you all is simply has anyone ever done this before and had any kind of success with it? If so what kind of design did you use? Plain white with black text? Or did you use a design from vistaprint? I'd love to get some feedback on this. Thanks Guys!
  11. Hi Everyone, My son has recently become enamored with the kid's show "The Fresh Beat Band", and I see it available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon, however I know Amazon you have to install their software and pray a device is supported, and I am getting mixed information about whether or not the video from iTunes has DRM or not. My main concern is that I do not want to buy the same thing multiple times to be able to play it on multiple devices. My main concerns are being able to throw an episode or two onto my HTC Incredible for when we are out somewhere and we need a quick distraction for the boy, and either playable locally or streamed to my PS3. If you guys know one way or the other with proof of iTunes having no DRM, or another source entirely that is reputable I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
  12. Are you looking for a College Degree program? or certifications?
  13. when you say meta titles, do you mean the title of the webpage? or do you mean meta tags that search engines would find? in either case you would have to open the web page as text and parse appropriately. HTML Meta Tag info
  14. Hey guys, I think I read some where that it is possible to detect if you are currently the victim of the "Wifi Pineapple", but have had no luck in finding out what exactly that information was. I have been playing around with C# and writing tech tools, or at least trying to come up with ideas of tools to write to make my job just a smidge easier. I currently only have 1 written and it removes those annoying stuck print jobs, and fixes printer dependencies for those annoying lexmark printers. so This post is two fold, first anyone know how to detect the pineapple, and second if anyone has an idea for a tech tool for me to attempt to write I'd love some suggestions! Also if it is allowed and people want them I will post them here.
  15. Ok so after a day or so of messing with it, I gave up on using the Zoom Bluetooth adapter and snagged the one off my HP printer... the HP one worked with the widcomm drivers INSTANTLY and the sound works great. However two new issues have arisen... #1 i get random disconnects and repairing doesn't always work right. #2 The battery lasts about 4 hours. some of you might see 4 hours as a long time, but in reality it's not because of issue #1 I can't easily turn the headset off then back on to save battery life. short version: widcomm wins, battery life fails lol thanks for the help!
  16. I don't know if I am out of date with Bluetooth versions, here is the dongle I am using Zoom Model 4322 Thumbnail-sized Class 2 USB Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR Adapter The drivers they have on their site has the old bluesoleil 5 with it and 7 threw a bigger tantrum than my 1 year old when I tried to install it. I did however, find information about a "Widcomm" bluetooth stack from Broadcom, however their installer does not detect my dongle. I have half a mind to go pick up another bt dongle and give that a go... Problem is I have next to no way of knowing if the dongle will work with the widcomm or not.
  17. @Infiltrator the phone and headset work fine together, I only thought to mention it to note that I don't think it's the headset thats the problem. @MrProtocol I had thought of that, this is a laptop and I tried running the dongle further from the laptop with an extension cable. Thanks for the replies guys, I'm still searching the net to see if I come up with anything there
  18. what I hear from other people is just fine, as if i was using a wired headset or letting it come through my speakers. What is recorded from this microphone and sent out is where the issues arise. But I don't believe it to be the actual microphone on the device as it works flawlessly with my cell phone and people i talk to with it. thanks!
  19. Hey Guys I was recently given as a gift a Blue Ant T1 headset, and it works great with my Android phone, quite possibly the best headset I have ever had. It has a cool feature where it can pair with two devices at the same time, and I decided to give it a whirl hooked up to my laptop for use on ventrilo. I should also mention that I am also trying to use this for gaming on a 52in tv from my couch. The Problem I have is that when paired with the pc the audio quality goes to absolute shit, people tell me I sound like I'm far away or in a wind tunnel or "OH GOD DUDE YOU NEED A NEW HEADSET!" so is this a Software issue? a hardware issue? or is it just that Smart Phones have better bluetooth communication capabilities than PCs? Thanks as always *edit* some things I forgot... Using Windows 7 Professional x64, tried with WIn 7 BT software and latest Bluesoleil trial, and dongle is a "Zoom" Brand model 4322
  20. 1.) have you tried running the software as administrator |-If no give it a try, you may be surprised 2.) Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if there is a patch for windows 7? 3.) is the program graphically intensive? |-Yes |--Don't know what to tell you, because it won't run that great in a virtual machine |-No |--Are you Running windows 7 Professional or Ulimate? |---Yes |----Try the "XP Mode" which is like a built in virtual machine (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/) |---No |----Download Virtual Box or VMWare Player (Both Free) and install windows XP to a virtual machine, load it up when the application is needed.
  21. Thanks Guys, I have been used to spotting and removing other malware for people (namely my sister) and I saw many a video with mubix showing the wonders of metasploit and thought... "awww shit" lol as far as meterpeter does it show up as a service or ??? Thanks again
  22. Hey guys, This comes on the white hat side of things... But is there any sure fire way to know that you have been the victim of a metasploit attack? Further from that is there any easy way to clean it out, or does it call for ye olde reformat? I realize there is no single infection with metasploit as there are different payloads and what not. does it install most exploits as a service or as autorun in the registry? Thanks!
  23. ehh the wifi isnt really needed for scanning its more of keeping the rainbow tables somewhere remote and just being able to upload a cap file to the machine and let it rock n roll, I think I might just for now get the one box to run BT4 and if i find I need a separate box for actual other linux use get it then. and as for a linux box i can break without worry I think im going to run a virtual machine using VMWare player Thanks for all the input guys
  24. yeah the general idea was to set up ssh on a Backtrack 4 box, and then have that accessible through my NAT. I go out find some wireless networks, perhaps ones I have a rainbow table for already or not I can start a screen session and logout, go back to what im doing etc etc
