  1. prey is good i actually use it, but it has a lot of downsides. the fact that if there is no internet then you know nothing about your laptop. if it is encrypted then you know your data is safe but if they cant turn it on again you know nothing about where your computer is. also if they just reformat again your screwed. you can get around truecrpyt. you can get around logon password.
  2. your amazing. i wasnt thinking that since i had to change the port to 444 it wouldnt be under the standard exceptions. thanks mate -edit- quick last question though any way i can change it so you dont have to type in the port every time?
  3. Well its on my mediasmart server and i really have not put a firewall on it. Just the windows firewall.
  4. yeah i just added 444 to my router to forward from my server.
  5. It says unable to connect. With a nice try again button. On lunch can be more specific when I get back feel free to go to the site.
  6. -SOLVED- I just installed adito vpn to my home server but i can not access it remotely. I had to put it on port 444 since i already have a HTTPS site though my server running on 443. When i go to access my Vpn i go to "removed" though i get and error every time. If i go to "removed" i get my mediasmart home page. anyone know why I'm having this problem. i can access it from my local network. just going to https://"servername":444. anyone have a solution?
  7. May you should show script your trying to get working.
  8. You have to think that the show will not be at 100% at the time. They are in the process of relocating which takes a lot of work. The fact that they are able to keep the a show up and running is amazing they have a good dedicated team and good things are to come.
  9. thats not really that funny. something this could be used for law enforcement. just think about all the high speed chases that end in crashes or death of innocent people. instead they could just shutdown the persons car when they are getting pulled over.
  10. ???? how did you not find it helpful this is telling your exactly how to do it.
  11. i would have to say that he/she put it perfectly!

Google is your friend info on iwconfig for future http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.org/man_pages/iwconfig8.html glad you got it figured out.
  18. yeah i boot from usb with a lot of things but i want to start getting into backtrack more and it can be annoying carrying around keys. but i too am glad that its fixed. and its all backed up so i can just recover from that if anything goes wrong. but i think the problem was with the grub from the ubuntu and the bt4 i dont think the ubuntu grub like bt4 very much.
  19. I think it has to do with the order that you install them to your OS. i have them installed as Windows XP ubuntu, bt4 in that order and they have worked fine for over a week now. i did not take the virtual route since im still pretty new to it. and would rather not mess with it atm.
  20. i did the make install and still nothing. someone said that you have to activate the driver. but i dont know how to do that with backtrack. plus i read that with my card i will only be able to get on the internet. not do any monitoring or injecting. which makes it pointless. but after more research this link stats that it is possible. we will see. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1266620
  21. im still trying to do this b43 driver for linux-2.6.24 (Ultimate Edition 1.8/Ubuntu 8.04) If you are using the b43 driver from linux-2.6.24, follow these instructions. Use version 011 of b43-fwcutter. Download, extract the b43-fwcutter tarball and build it: Select all wget http://bu3sch.de/b43/fwcutter/b43-fwcutter-011.tar.bz2 tar xjf b43-fwcutter-011.tar.bz2 cd b43-fwcutter-011 make cd .. i can get this part done to the make. but then i get lost. Use version 4.80.53.0 of Broadcom's proprietary driver. Download and extract the firmware from this driver tarball: Code: Select all export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR="/lib/firmware" wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2 tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2 cd broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-011/b43-fwcutter -w "$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR" wl_apsta.o Note that you must adjust the FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR path to your distribution. The standard place where firmware is installed to is /lib/firmware. However some distributions put firmware in a different place. i dont understand how the first command works. export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR everytime i type it in i just get ">" what is the Firmware_install_dir is that just the /lib/firmware? or is it something else.
  22. i have never had this problem before with backtrack before. but it seems i have to find drivers for my wireless lan card. though i dont know what type it is. all i know for sure is that it is a "Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth" is there anything i can do in backtrack to find it or will i need to open windows and look under the device manager. also were can i find drivers for backtrack, and how do you install them? thanks in advance. Just found the card its a broadcom 802.11b/g Wlan you guys would be proud of me. i did some research.......... http://backtrack.offensive-security.com/index.php/HCL:Wireless which the link takes you here http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php though im still going have to find something with info how do it all this stuff. i will post back when i come up with something. I found more information here. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#fw-b43-lp but im still kind of confused on what i have to do. i know i need to do this: but im not really sure what im doing.... or is what i have quoted above all i have to do? i tried this and it doesnt seem to work. so once again im lost.
  23. I was able to load recovery mode when i canceled out of that it gave me the command prompt allowing me to log in and start the x server. after i attempted to load ubuntu and it worked fine so far but i will look into your solutions.
