  1. At my home I use a SonicWall TZW as my firewall, and I am running Snort as an IDS, but it's not set up very sophisticated or anything, just some basic rules set up. I don't have any anti-virus software. My home network is not very large, so it's not really practical for me to worry about intrusions, or worry about running scans on my own network to test our it's security, because I pretty much know how secure it is based on the few devices on the network. There are way too many security tools out there for me to name, but I use quite a bit when assesing a network. Some of my favorites include nmap, brutus, nikto, dsniff, wireshark, THC IPv6 Attack Toolkit... list goes on.
  2. Yeah it was a bit strange, I was in the seminar that he was supposed to appear in, and someone came onto the stage and explained to everyone that he had been taken to jail. Also, Kevin Mitnick got stuck in Columbia sick, and a blackout in Queens shut down a seminar on quantum computer and crypto. Haha, it was a pretty messy conference all in all.
  3. hEY GUYS! I'm pretty new, just wanted to say hI!!! lloolol!11!!1
  4. I agree with Metatron, it's a fantastic operating system for servers, especially running on Sun hardware, if you want to run large databases and such Solaris can't be touched. But for a workstation or desktop environment I'd recommend a more standard Linux. If you build Gentoo all the way through yourself you are going to learn a shit load about UNIX, however it may be a difficult task if you don't have much patience. I would recommend staying away from something like SuSE or Ubuntu because the installers do all the work for you, so you may not get a chance to learn a lot about the system and how it peices together.
  5. Use the google fu, you guys know j0hnny? He'll be on Sploitcast soon.
  6. That's the least of my issues
  7. Please excuse Duelus, straight guys on the Hak.5 forums tend to like every girl they come across, so they assume that it's the same for woman
  8. I'm left handed. I suppose I'm going to die earlier
  9. Ah, sorry, Chipendales is what you want. I believe Wess does that on the side.

I shower in the morning. I wear shoes a lot of the time I like to kick small children. Oh wait, what was this thread about again?
  11. How is a party even posible without girls? I mean... what would you do? Eh, I've been to some pretty terrible geek parties. But then again maybe there were girls there, but I just couldn't tell...
  12. I would highly recommend a traditional degree. Most companies still greatly prefer those to trade schools or strange degrees. Engineering (electrical, mechanical, computer), Computer Science, Applied Mathematics; those are all good degrees if you want a tech job.
  13. Since you're on the Hak.5 forums I'm going to assume that no girls have been invited, so go ahead and shell out the cash for some strippers.
  14. Drums and guitar here, not good at either.
  15. Last I heard Trillian's encryption had a flaw in the RSA padding. I prefer OTR ("off the record") plugin for Gaim, that's real good real time crypto. I haven't heard of any known flaws with it as of yet.
  16. Did you guys not study religion in high school or something?
  17. The reason there aren't many girls that you see in CS is because they are in fact hiding. Hiding from what? The CS guys who are all greasy and slober pizza while using the computer. So, even if there is a girl in CS, you won't ever see her.
  18. Nope, not gonna make it to the briefing, just DefCon
  19. Nah, you got your history wrong. TomB was the cowardly prince that got his shit rocked by the bad ass half-dragon Harrison

    ajax

Yes you can do that with AJAX, For example, Digg.com uses AJAX to update the "digg" count without refreshing the page.
  21. I don't do anything bad, but I have a lot of data that I don't want being released to the public. In fact, I have a lot of data that I wouldn't want even a close friend or family member seeing. For example, quarterly statements from my investment firm, or banking statements. All of that information is private, but important to keep in case you need it for tax purposes. So I encrypt the information and usually back up the important files (encrypted) on some external source, like a thumb drive or something, because they are usually very small sized files. I do that just in case my hard drive were to crash or something like that. And yeah, I keep a copy of the key pair on an external location as well, just in case. But like I said, most of the data that I need to keep secret is very small text or pdf documents, nothing big like movies or pr0n vids, so it's relatively easy for me to keep it encrypted. I would say about 95% of my data is left unencrypted, because it's not important to anyone other than me, just work stuff, etc.
  22. I played on computers and did school work, etc, for a long time, but I never really did real work with a computer until I got my first computer job in middle school to which I used my Macintosh Performa.
  23. Mine came from an ancient mythological creature named Harrison who used to pwn boxes all the time.
