  1. last time I looked sudo apt-get remove unity worked just fine thanks... as does logging in with ubuntu classic....?
  2. we all have our sources but of course winners don't do warez... :)
  3. how many pins are on the ZIF socket? doesn't look many , might not be worth playing with.... is it parallel interface? doesn't seem too much info on the net which is never a good sign...
  4. I'd be very surprised if it was real!
  5. is that Darren's double on the keyboard and mouse?
  6. lol , just mind the roaming dog , and the course is pretty tight too. last time I saw someone drop a bike from that height he had a flat spot on his rim..
  7. I wonder if they'll get those big 'PASSWORD INCORRECT' signs that appear on the screens or the 'ACCESS DENIED' ones.....
  8. I have BT4 on an SD-Card whacked in my EEE - it is bt4-final.iso. I too used unetbootin however I did update bt4 and add a couple of scripts with the bt4 customise sript. I just booted it using the text mode and being the live version it automatically logs in then ran startx and KDE fired up. You don't state whether it's the Backtrack 4 final iso your trying?
  9. might be stating the obvious but it should be 'startx' and not 'STARTX' ...
  10. my advise is using a copy of AUF 007 or mech asault with a memory card and a hacked gamesave , P.S I do hope thats homebrew games you mean as 'winners don't do warez' :-) to be fair the best mod for these is XBMC . to change the hard drive on a softmod , make sure you relock it with an original lock...
  11. here is my best guess , (sorry if I'm wrong and I'm unsure of the impedence but I'd still use 50 OHM coax... or an antenna straight onto it) but use a multimeter and find an earth point , use the shield from the USB to locate this. This is normally the largest piece of copper and attach the earth braiding as close to the signal point that your going to attach as well - do not bridge the two - the signal point looks like it has a tiny smd capacitor accross it (maybe a resistor?) personally I'd remove this , which would detach the internal antenna (the copper coloured large track) and this would be the centre core for the coax to the antenna.
  12. just to add another point , I have read somewhere that if your computer has no connection to the internet , it will not give you 30 days to activate , if you have a network card and can get it installed through safe mode and connected to our router etc.., this option seems to become available again..
  13. here is my two penny's worth , basically removing a hard drive from one machine to another (as far as windows is concerned) is not a good idea , the reason it is asking for activation is windows has detected hardware changes (normally large ones) and it thinks it is being used on more than one machine - because it is (well sort of) - and as your windows licence is for 1 machine.... you might be able to boot from a 'live-cd' with some form of activation cracking however I still stick with my first statement this is not a good idea , because it will still have hardware drivers from the other machine and most likely won't pick up the new ones very easily (without a good push) and the chances of a BSOD are very high. If the hardware is similar i.e. the same model laptops this does help this situation. So to be honest although it's not impossible to move a hard drive with windows on it from one machine to another the best situation is to obtain a live cd from somewhere for instance ubuntu (it's free and will work fine) backup your important data get hold of a copy of windows - same version you had - i.e home or pro and use your licence to re-install your PC , if it's just being used on 1 machine , no problems...
  14. yeah afraid it could be somethink like longeSTRANGE as well as STRANGEST etc...
  15. Not really a hack or a mod , but seriously if you want some help , a bit more info wouldn't go a miss.To say I have a ' wireless usb modem to access the internet anywhere i go ' and how do I get this working on linux is not helpful , a make and model preferably chipset would be helpful (lsusb in a terminal??). There is support for alot these devices in newer kernels and a network manager does the rest...
  16. the problem with trying to hack some ports on 127.0.0.1 is the owner always catches you doing it!
  17. yes I think most people have gone down this road at some time or another and to be fair you can get a 'freesat' box however it isn't going to decode anything thats encrypted..
  18. When the world comes to an end or the oil and coal runs out, you will find me sat in my house in the woods, with running water, more than enough electricity to run a small town, supplies to last twenty years and a stock pile of weapons to rival a small dictatorship. - except for the fact you'll need to replace some bearings here and there and hope you don't freeze in winter :) seriously though most UPS's are just so you have enough time to safetly shut down the server , however I have seen fuses blown in UPS's causing more trouble than if there wasn't a UPS...
  19. I used to use airomap (on a WM 2005 device)to do the same thing , export to KML then view in google earth. It's kinda ironic that the whole of kings acre road and whitecross road all seems to be BT
  20. give it six months , and it'll be old hat
  21. am I missing something? his router is a WRK which isn't DD-WRT compatible? and yeah the last time I had the misfortune of using such an item it couldn't hold a signal from one room to another!
  22. ubuntu looks too much like XP? if I use windoze I always use XP. quite simply because I hate bloated OSes. I loved win2K and as far as I'm concerned the main reason I use Ubuntu is because I'm fed up to the back teeth of spyware/malware removal (not always on my machine) and the fact that no matter how hard I try I can never keep my OS as quick as when it was first installed. As far as windows is concerned I installed it for a while and it was quite nippy , however do I really need that much horsepower just to run an operating system? I quite often use VM's for various testing purposes and to be fair I loved M$ VirtualPC until I tried VMware workstation under ubuntu! browsing the net is so painless! and why is it that no matter what M$ OS I use it kills my hard drive when running a game with virtual memory etc??? but when I run the same game under linux (using wine) I can use my computer straight away after playing the game.If you really need an operating system to bounce around the screen and play a fanfare just to load a web browser then maybe you really should stick with windows , otherwise wake up and smell the coffee...
