  1. Thank you Alan, will have to look into that. Would like to try and reduce cost :-D Are you able to do dual monitor with that mother board?
  2. Would like to try and build myself a little test lab out of the VMs, along with using some of them for development and staging. I guess the boost in performance from the CPU is worth the extra cash, but would the motherboard be? Many Thanks, Sprouty
  3. Hi, I'm looking to build a new computer to mainly host VMs, running Ubuntu desktop and Virtual box and looking for some advice. I'm not too sure what i should be looking for hardware wise, and just hoping for some input from the forums. I've got a short hardware i was thinking of: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag4csyckunWvdDBzVDZwUG9ha0N1dkItTmpua0VZZlE I was hoping to strip the power supply and case from my current case. Just wondering for any thoughts or if you would swap certain parts in and out? I would be grateful for any advice. Many Thanks, Sprouty
  4. Thank you! The room is very small: 7'4 x 6'2 (2.24m x 1.88m). It would be more a Office space, were i could work from home, and develop my side projects. I currently have three computers, two monitors, and two laptops. I wanted to put a white board in there two put ideas down along with T.V. Physical security is not really a concern for me. If the misses wants to use the computer or family they are welcome. I also have a ton of documents that i need to find a home for. I'm really trying to come up with a few ideas on the layout and the look of the room (even down to colors and lighting). Any suggestion would be brilliant. Cheers, Sprouty
  5. Hi, I'm looking to set up one of the rooms in the house to a small computer room/home office space And was just wondering what should be included? At the moment the only thing i can think about putting in there is the computer and a small white board? Anyone got a similar set up going and willing to share ideas pictures? Cheers, Sprouty.
  6. You could use the following command ssh -fND localhost:9999 <userame>@<EXTERNALIP> Then in you internet browse set it to use a socks proxy on localhost port 9999 and you should be able to browse to your internal webserver, as if you were on your home LAN. A more in depth tutorial is here: http://mysshlog.com/tutorials.php?Page=7 It normally used to secure your internet connection but can be used to browse local web servers, (Poor mans VPN) Cheers, Sprouty.

  11. Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right forum section, but I'm hoping someone can help me anyway. I'm looking to install a security camera. what i would like to do and would appreciate some comment on is i would like my ubuntu box to receive the cameras feed and record it. I've seen a few program that look able to do it. The problem i have is i'm not sure what hardware would be compatible to ubuntu and would really like some suggest or comments. The current camera i have is like:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Weatheproof-Vision-Office-Security-adaptor/dp/B001C21KIG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293788394&sr=8-1 .
