Hello Guys
I am leaving soon for South Lebanon... Yayyy! whatever...
Anyway...
I got some infos about this part of the country and the first thing I was told is that the electricity goes off there and there are days when you get the electricity and days when you do not.
So I am bringing my laptop with me and I was wondering, beside buying a UPS over there, is there a way to buy a car battery and run my laptop of it?
Like during the time when there is electricity, have the battery be recharged, and then at night or during the day, plug my laptop to the battery when the electricity goes off..
So any idea how to proceed? I am clueless when it comes to electricity, was this mod realized before? any link?
Thanks people!
Peace!

Elevator Hack ------------- The designers of some elevators include a hidden feature that is very handy if you're in a hurry or it's a busy time in the building (like check-out time in a hotel). While some elevators require a key, others can be put into "Express" mode by pressing the "Door Close" and "Floor" buttons at the same time. This sweeps the car to the floor of your choice and avoids stops at any other floor. This seems to work on Most elevators that I have tried! Most elevators have the option for this to work, but on some of them the option is turned off by whoever runs them. This is a rather fun hack, so the next time you are on an elevator, give it a try, you have nothing to lose, And this concludes Hacking Elevators 101! Elevators that have been tested and worked on: Otis Elevators (All But The Ones Made In 1992), Dover (Model Numbers: EL546 And ELOD862), And Most Desert Elevators (All, But Model Numbers ELD5433 And ELF3655)

I have opted for free web hosting. The only obvious downside to this is the adverts. Now, it's only a banner at the top of page, but the thing is distorting my banner. It only seems to behave itself when my site is coded with just plain HTML, if I use any JavaScript the thing screws my banner graphic up.
I'm sure theres a way to hack this, maybe by using <APPLET> tags in the head? I'm not technical enough to figure this out and was wondering if anybody could get me started with how I go about getting around this.
Thanks.
get a host, they are cheap in those days

I am a 15 year old working my way into the web development/design world. I recently adopted the idea of Web Standards and I have been working with CSS. I just put up a local web server for testing and now I want to dive into PHP. I understand the syntax and basic uses of PHP. Does anyone know a good begginer PHP project(source code would be good to).
www.php.net , the doc is excelent

Writing a batchfile to automate some procedures at work, however I want the user to be able to run the batchfile without arguments and have it give them the correct syntax for the batchfile commands. I know an IF statement is involved but can't seem to figure it out.
Any help is appreciated!

"]i've just gotten a new computer, so now i have a spare computer. the spare isnt very powerful, it has just enough power to download and listen to music. and run the internet. i dont have any room in my room to keep it as a second computer, so i was thinking i can make it a meddia center computer or something in my living room? the hard drive in that computer is more then enough to hold all my music and most of my movies, and id love to have all ofmy movies and music hooked up to my tv (i have a nice entertainment center and a nice tv) so i dont have to use cds or dvds anymore. any other suggestions/ help with this?

I don't like ubuntu, it hides to much stuff and has never worked 100% the way it should for me. I like Fedora though, it worked out of the box without problem on my laptop. Kubuntu is horrible, you may as well just install KDE on ubuntu. My main problem with ubuntu is pretty much my main problem with OSX, i have no idea what but something about it pisses me off.
Vake, kubuntu is ubuntu and KDE...
it is also pretty pointless to judge an OS, if you got no idea how to use it..
sorry nothing personal bro! we just cannot allow ourselves to criticize OS based on assumptions...
Yes he can. Ubuntu is shit and so are the people that work on it. Why? ,Because they embrace closed source, which hinders innovation and destroys one of the founding ideas of Linux.
By using Ubuntu, you fuck every *NIX user out there, as you remove the pressure on manufactures to move towards open source. Ubuntu users should fuck off back to Windows.
(End of rant)
And you are pretty impolite for a human being :?
and pretty stupid too
Yes, Ubuntu embraces "closed source", so?
If you were a bit smart, you will realize that when you install ubuntu, all packages are 100% free and open source.
Ubuntu GIVES YOU a choice - a choice of freedom, it is up to you to install the freaking closed source software and even then, so you know none of the proprietary softwares are hosted on the ubuntu mirrors
so before you start calling people "fuckers", do some research, at least you might look a bit smart - i mean "look smart", impolite? you already are, so don't worry - at least one thing you've achieved in your life.

This is my last post so all I can say is that, I disagree with you and think you’re a tool.
dude... that was a cheap answer don't you think so?
You disagree! ok, fine! with what then? coz all i said is true! so you disagree because you can prove me wrong? then go ahead, or you disagree because you just feel like disagreeing? - tsss tsss, trust me, you continue like that, you might as well start spamming the forum for the sake of being bored at your computer,
till later,
peace

Well, one thing I can say, if you've got the money, buy an IBM, the T60 is a great deal.
Dell are good laptops... anyway everbody's experience... if you wish to wait till you get enough money, then get an IBM... there is nothing like IBM hardware...
anyway that was my 2cts
