  1. Compared to scraggy London, full of beggers and tramps?
  2. I'm in agreement with stingwray, at that age they won't care about privacy or internet security. It's a rather wasted time since it'll be ignored anyway. In my opinion, it would be a much better idea to be honest and explain that they probably shouldn't talk to strangers on the internet but the majority of the time they're perfectly safe. The reality of it is, this is just like teaching kids about safety IRL. Don't talk to strangers, don't walk down dark alleys and you'll be fine.
  3. That's up to you to decide for, if you do decide to partake in the exercise. Giving away too much information would defeat the point of the test. As an attacker coming accross data, there's a slim to none chance that you'd know what algorythms are being used and precisely what format the data takes.
  4. It's using AES, i'll give you that.
  5. Encryption technology is used to store data, of that we are all aware. For those of you out there that are tech savvy I pose a question. When encrypting data the longer and more complex password is the best, this is fairly common knowledge. However, my question today is -- given the practical reality of most 'hackers' skills & resources, is basic encryption, using a basic key crackable? Linked at the bottom of this post is a 1mb file, it's encrypted and it contains some data. The password is weak, this is the aim of the game -- attempt to crack the encryption and reveal the data inside of the encrypted file here, in this thread. The idea of this exercise is to test the reality of encrypted technologies against a real life situation, do we really need 20 digit passcodes and can a personal computer break encryption? Hopefully, we'll see! Good luck. http://rapidshare.com/files/203932781/T52
  6. Much better with another try, but not perfect yet..
  7. You see what I see. In all fairness I'm using Wireless right now, so I'll re-try the download when I'm on a wired connection and post results.
  8. My network connection speed is not 7mb, my literal download speed is 7mb, which should rule out any confusion (I.e. I can download at a rate of 7,000kb/s from standard servers such as rapidshare). I'm located central UK with very good network links.
  9. Hi Folks, I've been a long time fan of the show and I've always wondered about your server hosts. I'm capiable of recieving up to 7.5mb/s download rate, however whenever I download hak5 episodes I only recieve around 500-600kb/s download speed. Does your host throttle bandwidth for users? Having to wait 30mins for an episode is quite frustrating when it could be downloaded in 60 seconds flat if your host had the bandwidth. Many thanks & I appreciate replies, James
