I use Chrome for everything, but I have one work website that doesn't play nice and whenever I need to visit it from home I haft to copy+paste into IE. I'd rather not create a bookmark in IE. If possible, I'd like to modify the bookmark in Chrome to run IE and point to the URL of the work site. Anyone know if its possible? All I'm getting from Chrome is a save as to download IE from my hard drive :-)

by the way, the code in the first post, has the image tag inside of the script. You need to reference the script in the image tag as a src="javascript:somescriptThingy();" and then in the script, have it change the image for you on the fly.
So the updated code would be? Sorry, like I said I don't know a lot of html beyond basic tags. I got this code from 1 of the various blog posts on it if you do some Googling. The original post I had found was for getting it to work on a WordPress blog (which Lifehacker pointed out recently), but seeing as this is using Google's service I thought it would be easy enough to implement into a Blogger blog... but nope, it doesn't display anything right now.

This look wrong to anyone? I want to get dynamic qr code generation working for every page on my blog. I desire to add it as a html/javascript gadeget on the side bar. My html/javascript experience is very limited....

Just thought I'd let everyone know I've got screen magnification now. Getting it working is a matter of installing the CompizConfig Settings Manager for X systems and enabling the enhanced desktop zoom settings.

I'm visually impaired with poor eye sight unfortunately at times, so I'm looking for full desktop screen magnification program for Ubuntu. I don't need a screen reader but if its there the better. I'm aware of Orca that comes with the system, but I've been unable to use it (it crashes and freezes up the screen, or doesn't allow me to navigate the system with the mouse). Its not that I have bad graphics, its integrated but it used to run Windows Aero just fine and now I've only got Ubuntu on this laptop as my primary system for on the go productivity.
I've been really impressed with Ubuntu lately, with a majority of the apps I use and need most often installed (I almost don't miss having Windows on there), but screen magnification is really something I need.

Teamviewer is nice. If you want an alternative look into Mikogo (especially if you want to use it at work).

I wouldn't go with Verizon. Ask me 2-3 months ago and I would've said sure (I had wanted the Droid X), but now that they've dropped their unlimited plan and continue to charge customers the same high priced rate I look at them differently now. Sure they've got nice phones, but theres others that can compete.
Besides Sprint, T-Mobile's also got an unlimited data option. $30 a month for my Vibrant. Worth it because I've got Wireless Tether installed so I might consider even dropping my home connection if I had to (it runs pretty decently even though its only 3G). Samsung's Galaxy S line is truly a nice line of phones. My Vibrant not having a keyboard or anything to make it bulky almost makes it look just like an iPhone (if not better).
Only complaint is Samsung hasn't put out the 2.2 update for us in the states yet. I'm not the type to flash an entire new ROM on my phone, I just want the performance boost and flash video capability 2.2 well provide, and I would like it before Google comes out with 2.9 or 3.0. I just got the phone and I fell like I'm playing catch up with the Droid phones on Verizon.

I use the aforementioned partition method with my desire and it works perfectly fine. Desire only sees the fat32 partition and when I boot on my comp it boots from the EXT3 partition with BT4 on it. All done on an 8GB SDHC card.
What tools/steps did you use to prep the card and partition it? I'm thinking if I initialize the card in Ubuntu and format it in Windows maybe it'll like it?

I'm not having an issue with formatting/partitioning at all, except for the fact whenever I disconnect from the computer my phone says the SD card is corrupted. I've formatted as fat32, and I don't need multiple partitions, just 1. It likes fat32 just fine, its only when I prep the disk with an MBR table that allows me to make the partition active and bootable. It has to be a Windows friendly filesystem as most of the tools are Windows based.

I'm pretty happy with my new phone. Because it has 16GB of internal storage, I don't need the 2GB MicroSD in it for anything in particular, so I would like to use it as a computer repair USB replacement for a USB watch I used to carry around with me. It was very difficult trying to get the SD card set as active from Windows so I got everything setup in Ubuntu. Put Kon-Boot on there to test things out and sure enough I was able to boot it :)
Theres a problem though. Anytime I use Disk Utility to format the SD card with a MBR table my phone well see the card as corrupted when scanning for media whenever I unmount it from my computer. This is an issue because when its "corrupted" the phone well not mount it when I connect my phone back to my computer unless I format the card first on the phone.
Anyone else around here use their phones as their computer repair kits that might know of a way to to create the MBR table so the phone doesn't complain? It needs to be MBR formatted if I want the partition to be bootable (which I do, since I've got some boot discs I want to throw on there).

It never created the dropbox folder for me, on either my sd card or my internal memory. I've found a portable version of the desktop version that seems to be working pretty well. Minor inconvenience but it gets the job done.

Ok, to answer my own question, no, it doesn't store a local copy from what I can tell. Its a shame. Whats the point in installing the app than if you can just go on the website? I know it does allow you to use your files with other applications on your phone, but its just not what I needed.

Anyone who uses Dropbox on their phone know if they have edit access to a local copy when connected as a mass storage device?
A little background. My flash drive was stolen. I have a new Android phone :). I'm using my phone for just about everything portable now. This includes taking advantage of my phone's 16GB of internal storage to replace the need for another flash drive.
Up until this point I didn't see the need for Dropbox. I'm old fashioned, and used Windows Briefcase to sync files between my computers and my flash drive. If Dropbox can provide me 2GB of storage that syncs with my computers AND phone I'll be able to ditch having to manually connect my phone and sync when I make changes to a file.
What I want is the ability to store the synced folder locally on my phone, and access it when the phones storage is mounted as a mass storage device when I'm on the go. This would eliminate having to download Dropbox and tweaking it to run in a portable fashion since the app is installed on my phone. Anyone know if this is possible?

Kon-boot patches memory. I don't think it ever touches the disk. I've had problems with Kon-boot on some machines too. I'm hoping they'll come out with an improved version soon (my 6 month whatevers expiring). Kon-boot is still very useful, being the only one of its kind to completely bypass the need to enter a password at logon... and it does it quickly... a lot faster than dealing with booting livecds.

If you're going to be using this drive on a machine as a non administrator I'd recommend a Sandisk U3 drive. Mines password protected. I haven't found a way around the protection, so it should be pretty good. Only con is you won't be able to use this drive on a linux or OS X system.

I thought so. The specs on the hardware is the biggest problem for me right now. I guess I'll stick it out a few more months and see what happens. It seems much better than dropping a few hundred on current models at this stage.

I'm nearly cloud hosted now. I pretty much run everything from a web browser and I'm getting rather tired of my heavy Dell laptop. These new tablets that are coming about look to be much lighter to carry around (and simplier to use?). Which tablet would you recommend $200-$500 price range and why? Heres my requirements:
* Something within the price range above (i'm a broke college student - probably be selling stuff to make money for the purchase)
* 9-10 inches. The idea is to be smaller than my 15 inch laptop, yet big enough I'm not straining to see something. Anything smaller I might as well just use a phone.
* It'll mainly be used for on the go productivity, but something with decent specs would be nice
* Speaking of productivity, I need something that can allow me to run most Google apps in the browser with little trouble. I'm talking something that'll allow me to work on Google Docs files.
* Webcamera/microphone... I need to be able to do occasional Skype with distant family
* Something with S-Video/HDMI to output to TV. I like to Skype in my living room on a 52 inch screen.
Not requirements but something I'm looking for in a tablet:
* I'd like to be able to print documents from it (if possible)
* Decent Windows tablet would be nice (OS X tablets don't seem to exist?). I have a Livescribe smartpen, so Windows/OS X would be required for transfering notes.
I have done some research and found very limited options (this tablet idea is stilll relatively new to the market I know). ARCHOS seems to offer the most options. The iPad looks interesting but if theres a Windows tablet that doesnt sacrafice quality and is cheaper I would buy that any day. Android tablets are nice but I'm looking forward to eventually acquring an Android phone and would much rather perfer a fully functionl OS like Windows if it were available.
Should I be waiting for better options or does someone already know of something on the market that meets my wants/needs?

Heres the deal. I got 300 SMS msgs a month coming/going. I'm happy with this, but unfortunately I dont have any data plan on my phone (I'm a poor college kid).
I want to keep up on Facebook status messages via SMS, but only for a limited # of ppl most important to me who don't post that often anyway to outdo my monthly quota. While I can reply at the computer I'm doing this so when I'm on the go I can comment. I'm kinda new to FB. I have the subscriptions setup and everything, but some of these ppl like to play games that post msgs to their walls or other ppl well post on them.
Simply put, are these extra messages left out of SMS? I want to subscribe to these ppl's status pages, but only if it excludes messages from social games and messages posted by ppl other than the wall's owner.

I'm finding out more and more that finding web apps to fufill your needs is key if you want to play around with different operating systems.

Check out VirtualWin. Its got way more customization in it, and its light and portable. I used to use this program a lot, but I can agree with the other guys above. I do most of my work in a web browser now which negates having so many windows on the taskbar that I need to separate stuff.

Gather the installers and put them on a disk. Get Nirlauncher or other application launcher and create a custom package. Ninites a good choice to get a small single installer that installs the basics automatically. Its been featured on a previous hak5 episode.

Android Move2sd Disable

I'm the exact opposite of everyone who loves Move2SD. I stick to Google apps for the most part and can't stand the constant "do you want to move to SD" messages every time I update apps on my phone. Anyone know how to disable this feature in Android? I've removed my microSD card from my phone and I'm still getting asked to move apps (I've got a T-Mobile Vibrant w/ 2.2 Froyo, so I'll never run out of space).
