  1. Good time to learn SSH tunneling :) ... here's some good tips ... http://souptonuts.sourceforge.net/sshtips.htm http://www.zunta.org/blog/archives/2005/08...sshirking_work/
  2. I haven't had a chance to try Win 7 yet... XP was GREAT... it's still good but as of late there are soooo many instances where people are getting antivirus2009/antispyware2009/windowsantivirus (all malware) on their machines. Prob due to careless users but none the less on the rise :( If you can't tell by my handle.. I'm a Linux geek and use various distros @ home, Work requires me to use XP. I don't care for Vista ... too many quirks. Before SP1 I had more issues with wireless than anything else. Plus other minor annoyances. I don't have an issue with Microsoft products, I just don't always agree with their "corporate" ideals... but that's just my open source values. :) You have to use what works for YOU or your NEEDS. I would NEVER tell an average end user that has been using XP for years to switch to Ubuntu without valid cause. On the other hand I've come across individuals who are just so fed up with malware issues and no matter how much you "educate" them on safe computing they just don't get it. ( not their fault... they just don't have an ounce of technolust :P ) If someone said "I'm so sick of our PC, I've had to re-install XP 3 times in the past year and no matter what my kids get on there and load up all kinds of programs (limewire, any "FREE" games they can download in 3 sec, etc.) that just end up slowing everything down (malware infections), all I want to do is check my email and browse the web !!" I would (and have) casually throw out the idea of Linux, explain the benefits and weaknesses and give them a Live distro to try. I've found by taking this approach about 30-50% of people will actually stick with open source, and LOVE it. My 2 cents..
  3. Here's some more of my sticker pics ... My thermos full of "go juice" ... this sits on my desk at work, people walk by and ask "what's in it" ?? ... I say ... "Don't tell ...but its COFFEE" !!! My almighty "beige box" The original guts were a PIII 866 !! Had some stickers I haven't found a good home for, so I found this old photo frame and hooked it up !!
  4. Welcome !! I think you'll find this is one of the best communities to share, learn, contribute & create all different aspects of finding out how/why things work... taking them apart ... improving/modding the design and putting them back together. This includes hardware, software, toys & games . This is what I feel "hacking" is all about !! ... and i'm sure most will agree ! :) so again .. Welcome ! :)
  5. Thanks for posting !! I work 3rd shift on Fri missed the original ... glad I got to see this !!
  6. hey gcninja are you sharing your connection with anyone ?? If your NOT ( and you're wired & not downloading anything) check for packet loss on your connection... same thing happened to me about a year ago ..took 3 techs to find out it was a faulty card in the UBR at the CO.
  7. Vanilla 1.5Mbit DSL line,.. had the DSL "elite" 6Mbit but I don't need the speed... or want to pay the extra $$ for it ...:) On a side note the ISP I work for provides a "standard" connection of 15.0 Mbits down 2.0 up or you can get the 30.0 down 5 up for an extra $10 bucks a month... too bad I'm not in the company's service area :(
  8. Count me in !! I would think around $20 would be the spending limit on something like this though. Most custom USB shops need a min of like 50 pieces ...
  9. Nice setup !! I like the dual WAN connections. Are you using certain software for load balancing ?? On a side note... I found a good site for making network diagrams Gliffy.com
  10. Just downloaded the CTF version of Sauerbraten ... I must say... MUCH improved !! The game still locked up on me when I changed the resolution settings,.. but hey its NOT perfect. I actually like the floaty acceleration feel, everything kinda "flows" when your playing. Hey Hexskrew, any particular server you generally play on ??
  11. Good points.. I appreciate your concern. I'll take that under advisement. :)
  12. How is Sauerbraten these days ?? I haven't played in a few years, when I first played everything in the game felt disconnected from everything else... does it still feel that way ?? I liked the game play but certain points were buggy as hell while other parts were so polished you would think it came from a major game developer.
  13. It's only to get anonymous web access thru corp firewall... I don't care what happens to the connection on the other side. I won't be using any passwords or anything. anyway ... found my fix :) www.gopc.net<-- uses SSH by default, portable, FREE... port 6667 NOT blocked .. sweet !!
  14. Anyone know of any GOOD FREE shell accounts. There are a ton of "list" sites that have shell servers, but they all come with "strings" attached. ie: login to our IRC channel or forums every 32 hours or contribute before getting access, etc, etc. I have an SSH server running on my box @ home but the upload speed on my DSL is crap !! I just need a faster connection for tunneling my HTTP traffic. thanks
  15. I took some college network courses and I can vouch for the fact that alot of the theory is really ..REALLY mundane and repetitive .. I remember thinking "If this guy talks about the OSI model and the diff categories of cables one more time I'm gonna LOOSE IT" !! .. 99% of what i've leaned has been self taught ..
  16. **edit: .. never mind .... random spam post !! my bad.. :D ** ^^ WTF is that about??
  17. I came home last night to find my sweet pack of Hak5 goodies waitin' for me !! W00T !! My "little hackers" are already enjoying the tattoos !! Just wanted to give a BIG thanks to everyone at Hak5 for a great show !!! Keep up the great work !!
  18. You could also check out http://www.ciscokits.com ... a little more expensive but at least you know what your getting :) I've purchased some stuff from them in the past and haven't had a bad experience. Good luck on your studies !!
  19. Does make sense... hence all the "stimulus" crap to get everyone to SPEND more, prob that I see though is that you can't make $ from thin air ... but that's what it seems like is happening, in the long run that's gonna cause ALOT of issues ..
  20. WOW !! When you put it like that ... I'm a scumf***er !! But seriously that's a loooong stretch of how open source would negatively affect capitalism , there's prob many more things on the table than what schools are using Ubuntu that would cause issues for the way the government works... but hey like I said ... I don't follow politics that much :)
  21. Here's a nice guide I found.. sounds like it fits exactly what your doing .. :) http://blog.kovyrin.net/2006/04/05/connect...arent-bridging/
  22. WTF ? I don't follow politics that much so... do tell ...Just how does open source support communism ??
  23. 1. Quake 3 2. Doom (the original) 3. Neverwinter Nights 4. Galaga 5. Any other game in the Doom/Quake/Wolfenstien/Open Arena category ** (**the original Quake running on the EZQuake engine or Darkplaces engine is awesome) 6. Random time killers: NetHack Grid Wars World Of Goo Astromenace
  24. Saw it about a week ago ... freggin' GREAT !! I love when the kid asks "Is this going to last forever ?!?!"
  25. How about "the middler" ... saw Mubix posted the link over at room362.com.. although not sure how well it will work if your not actually setup as mitm... haven't had a chance to play with it yet .. http://www.room362.com/middler-0902071333.tgz
