Well don't know about advertising another sites, but if you want to learn more I could suggest HackThisSite.org
  2. Why not just make your MultiBoot to boot BT4 among the others? No need to install it just extract boot folder and tell grub to load initrd.gz and vmlinuz
  3. Thanks Sesha, I'll check it out.
  4. Since when has silly things like country restrictions stopped anyone?
  5. Hey! I don't really know if this is a right section, but it sounded like the best option... Anyways back to the topic, since I watched Hak5's latest episode I wanted to check out Google Voice, but aparently it requires invitations, so I am requesting one here. Will be totally thankful and will share all invites I'll get out for Hak5 community. Sincerely Ingo.
  6. This just sounds so much like all thouse other "great" ideas like: HackUbuntu or Hax0runtu or what have you, they all end up trying to imitate BackTrack in a way or another (plus aparently everyone thinks building stuff on Ubuntu is a wonderful idea) anyways no reason to re-invent the wheel. But sure you can and you should customize your own operaiting system to your liking and sure you can start from Ubuntu if you want to but Back Track really already has everything and you can just build it up if you see need.
  7. Keeping up with the theme: Konboot couldn't hurt, now could it? Maybe wanna throw in a desktop of somesort too, puppy linux or Back Track should do fine. Really there is no limit to what you can run from this, just put together what you feel like you need most (or have fun with most)
  8. Just like Psychosis said this really ain't "hackproof" as "you can't hack into it or get data from HDD", but it's ideal for school networks where you just want your users to use what you give them without having to worry about them messing shit up. Good idea and I would be happy to see theys guys employed in my schools network. EDIT: As it has been suggested you could disable the call home, but then you'd have no internet connection what so ever, this also works in a way as steal proofing (why one would like to steal a netbook for use is another question thou)
  9. sablefoxx, did you factor in the time it took you to write that piece of code? Just start the game, then start to write the code, then execute it and see how fast your method was ;)
  10. Just my two cents but, Ekoh you did download the floppy image of the Kon-boot, right? And it doesn't have to be extracted to your USB -device, you can just copy whole *.img to your USB's root (or where ever you want it to run from)
  11. Well, I'll see if this works in Vista atleast it didn't find my home WLANs pass from Win7 (yes I know Win7 is RC etc.)
  12. Basicly force of habit, we have only 6 months of actual school work left untill graduation and for past three years we have been able to use our schools intranet and Internet as we wish, but I guess we just have to adapt
  13. Hey! We are having a little problem at the school with WLAN connectifity and I was wondering if I could obtain the WPA2 password from Windows Vista? Our school build us a new computer apartment which is pretty sweet, but our "Web admins" have neglated to tell us the new WLAN password (which effectly shuts us from having access to your files, saved on schools domain server with our own laptops), we have schools own laptops which have the password saved into them and as usualy it can not be just copied off the settings, so is there any way to get the password expect to keep sending e-mails to our "Web Admins" and praying to God? P.S. I have access to machines Administrator account and to our Domain Administrator account.
  14. Just like Psychosis said. External HDD is basicly just big USB stick... which requres external power.
  15. If you are booting a LiveCD off your USB device, why would it get infected? Ofc if you connect your USB device on a running machine that has malware it can be infected, but if you are just booting an Live OS I can't see why it would get infected unless you mount the infeted device. Just my two coppers...
  16. Sure, but if someone is paranoid one can always crypt the HDD to prevent this, can't one :P
  17. Good guide for people who haven't played around GRUB all that much. My main comment to this is little off-topic, but considering... I think the password option (and the lock ofc) are propably ment from PC's where you would use GRUB as your basic boot loader, where I asume you can't just grab the "menu.lst", edit it and put it back in. Just my two cents.
  18. Thanks, mate! I was hoping for something like Hobbyhack's method, but by the love of God I coudn't get it to work, Reliom's method in other hand worked pefectly fine and also he did nice work with the submenu sadly now I have to keep TRK files in root of my USB -stick, but that shoudn't be all that big of a deal. Again thank you for your effrots *bow*
  19. I can't seem to find the thread about the episode anymore... maybe just my own incompetense, but anyways... Has anyone got Trinity Rescue Kit boot off MultiPass without problems? First TRK tells me that no CD was found and starts to check for HDDs and USB sticks Then it tells me that "cat: /etc/trkhd: No cusch file or directory" "Seems we didn't find anything yet. Trying CD-drives once more" "Trying to find TRK on your 0 CD-drive(s)" "Seems we didn't find teh TRK medium" Then it asks me to manualy enter the device, so I give my USB stick which is "sdb1" and again "/trk/trk3/trkramfs: No such file or directory" and I get root@(none):# promp My MultiPass lines for TRK title Trinity Rescue Kit 3.3 build 321 kernel /TRK/kernel.trk initrd=/initrd.trk ramdisk_size=49152 root=/dev/ram0 vga=788 splash=verbose initrd /TRK/initrd.trk Any ideas how to make this boot normaly?
  20. Wonderful episode and amazing thread! I have found answer to every one of my questions from here, but I still have something wrong with my splashimage. So, first I just made one with Windows Gimp and as posted before it didn't work, well I tryed sirBAMF's method with the ImageMagick program. Now when I boot my USB key grub loads fine but my splashimage is all messed up it looks like it has gone through paper shredder I also tryed to do splashimage under Ubuntu with Gimp, but I get same result. Anyone else contered anything similiar (asuming anyone can even understand me)? Checked what kind of splashimage BT4 used and it was smaller than my (I used 680x480) and when I resized my splashimage to 640x400 it worked perfectly

    Norton Security

Can't you just get OphcrackUSB, boot from the USB stick, get your parents (administrator) password then you should be able to have all sorts of fun.... and I guess you could either upgrade your account or create new admin account

    Woundering

Lurk some more and check remote-exploit.org. You'll pick up alot of (more or less) useful information.
  23. Stuff like this makes me really sad, sure Ubuntu isn't the same as any of Microsofts OS (mainly because it's not Microsofts OS), but still learning to use Ubuntu (and linux for that matter) shouldn't be overhelming task for anyone specialy if one is going in any IT/Computers class/course. Tbh, people should just learn to use Google and live their lifes happy
  24. Quite possible, but finding network printer again takes like 5secs and atleast I don't know anyone who would have one. not sure about TiVo, I have never had any experience with the system, but if it's designed anywhere near correctly then it shouldn't be much of a problem either.
