  1. There are several ways you can set it up. I have 2 NIC's in my main machine and will run BT4 and some type of windows on it, connect it to a old Linksys router I have, and connect a laptop with a faulty video card to it, running 1 or 2 VMs. But if your only using 1 computer, Mr-Protocol's internal network would work, or you could setup your DHCP server to give your VMs a different network to play in. Though there is no reason to bring your router into it if you just want to hack your windows VM from your BT VM, so it all depends on what you want to do and feel comfortable with.
  2. Yea, I've heard of this. If I recall, you need a .edu email address, and like a transcript to show that you are currently enrolled.
  3. Unless I missed a setting somewhere, there isn't an option to connect Smoothwall to both my main computer and a switch/router. You have to set the NIC to a color, the other unused colors are orange and purple, a DMZ and a wireless card. Is there a setting that would allow for a computer / NAT to be attached to the smoothwall machine beyond the green NIC? Though I'm pretty sure the gain from not going through my linksys router would be minimal though. I might need to get a 12-ish port gigabit switch soon and actually make my network nice.
  4. I'm proficient at most of the popular languages, C++, java, vb etc..., but I like to do most of my programming in C++ or java when possible. AutoHotKey looks interesting, I'll have to check it out, thanks
  5. Years ago, I wrote a program that could scan the screen for certain colors, it worked perfectly, and I was happy. Now, after countless HD reformats, new computers and all that, I've lost it. Now I can't even remember what language I wrote it in. I really thought it was java, but I haven't been able to find anything that could do that. So I'm wondering what languages could I do this in, so I can start to remake the original program. Thanks
  6. I've looked into something like this. I was thinking of hooking up 8 or so PS3's and going from there. Then Sony removed the OtherOS option from then since they didn't want to sell more units, or something like that. A while ago though I read that someone hacked it and was able to get Linux on it with the new firmware, but I didn't want to risk bricking any PS3's if something went wrong then. But there is probably more info on it now, but I haven't checked. There might even be a leaked copy of the firmware Sony made for the Air Force for their PS3 super computing project.
  7. Right now, I have been working on a smoothwall machine for my network. Also working on some little programs for my wife. I want to make some cool lighting for a mural on a wall with LED's, but hard to get started since there are like a thousand different types of LED's and I know almost nothing about not getting myself shocked into a coma, so I keep putting that off.
  8. Yea, I guess your right, plus this computer has been kicking around for so long I'm not even sure what processor is in it. While I'm here, I might as well ask another question. When I installed Smoothwall, I had the option for up to 4 cards, it couldn't detect my Linksys ones, but that's not a big problem. I'm curious before I go out and by some more gigabit NIC's, could I plug my main machine right into one on the the Smoothwall server, or can I only setup Smoothwall to go to switches or wireless cards? I'm thinking of one NIC for my main machine, one for a NAT, one for my media center, one for my wireless router, and the on-board for the internet in. I have the PCI slots, and one of the reasons I want to do this is to get the fastest speeds to my main machine, and so I can see how much data is going over my network, since if I plugged everything into my current Linksys wireless router, I don't think Smoothwall would see the data.
  9. I just made a Smoothwall server, and put it up on my wall. It's all going well, but I have a few questions. Should the processor be fine with just a heat sink and no fan? since that is the only loud thing about it, or is the only option to get a quieter fan? I was thinking if I replaced the heat sink with a big one, and took the fan off of that one, it might be enough since it isn't working too hard. But I wanted to double check, lest I fry a processor and burn a wall in my house down. Also, is there some way to make it auto turn on, say after a power outage? I just realized that there might be a setting in the BIOS for that, but one of the power supplies I was trying this it would turn on as soon as I plugged it in.
  10. That is pretty awesome.
  11. I did tech support for a hospital, and holy god doctors get pissy when they don't understand something simple. The 2 most memorable calls were a receptionist who pulled out her PS2 mouse and couldn't figure out how to put it back in, after 2 hours on the phone with her, I still had to have a tech run out and do it. The other was a doctor with a simple problem with a simple solution, but he wouldn't try it and yelled at me till I sent a tech out to do the "menial tech work". Ah good times...
  12. 1 random guy gets everything (possible needing 10 points), then the top 10 get the things you listed, then 1337 gets wtf is 1337 pack is. It sounds like the lucky guy can choose choice of mouse, gaming surface, keyboard though. EDIT:: well damn, it is l33t pack...I thought it was 1337 pack, feel like a 1337 moron now =P
  13. Kinda sounds like gpu, how many polygons per second it can load or something. But this is the first time hearing it for me. =P
  14. Yea, I guess I didn't read the whole thing, I guess you need 10 people to sign up through your link to get a the grand prize pack, but I think you just need to sign up for the 1337 pack, but I could be wrong, since I am a little distracted.
  15. I got the Razer Mamba Wired / Wireless Laser Gaming Mouse off sellout.woot, got some pretty good reveiws, good battery life, and I can just use it wired if I need to go longer then 14 hours at a time.
  16. My logitech mouse is dieing, cord is loose or something, so I just bought my first razer mouse off woot last week. I'm a little too excited for it to come I think.
  17. There was a PHP plugin for visual studio that I used for a month while I was in school. Think it was called vs.php, I'll try and find a link. I liked it because it was just a plugin for VS, and I was pretty used to it. http://www.jcxsoftware.com/vs.php EDIT:: it seems you have to pay for it if you want to use it for over a month, so this might not be the best option for you.

    Tv Shows

I don't watch south park, but I did see this on digg this morning. http://blastr.com/2010/10/image-of-the-day-starship-1.php They think the original enterprise is in the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. I think it could look like it, but it could also look like pretty much anything. Reading through the comments, there was talk of Serenity from Firefly in the first episode, and it's true. Not sure if this should go in the TV shows thread or the random fact thread.
  19. Friend sent this to me, seems that razer has 133,337 followers on facebook or something, so they are giving away 1337 razer products. Not sure what the 1337 packs contain, but I'll take pretty much anything for free =P. Even though the giveaway is worldwide, so the chances are pretty much nil, thought I might as well give it a shot. http://l33t.razerzone.com/index.php?user_d...d4f5ae3c12971ae

    Dyndns

Does anyone know if there is a way to get DynDNS to work on a private IP address. I'm setting up a surveillance camera that I would like to access from anywhere. I'm using the guide at : http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/questions/1...my-home-network It says as long as I have a 10.X.X.X WAN address on my router it won't work. I talked to my ISP and they said it would cost extra per month, but they could do it. I'd rather not give them any more money, since they suck ass, and since our HOA has them, I am stuck with the ISP till I can convince 70 people to switch. It's not too important that I can see it from outside my network, but it would be nice. I think I explained this poorly, My ISP is setup with a bunch of switches, so there is a problem with how DynDNS works I guess. Both my router and IP camera have DynDNS setup on them, with separate host names. It seems I always post my questions when I'm really tired, and I tend to ramble, and lose focus. so, yea.
  22. I've wanted to go to Defcon for years, but every year something has come up. But next year....oh next year....

    Tv Shows

It might just be me, but I feel that Dexter isn't the same show this season. I feel like it's missing a driving force or something.
  24. No problem, glad I could help.
