  1. Here's a hint. If you're asking what distro to use - Use XP. It's like swimming, you can't learn unless you're in the water.
  2. I believe Snubs said that Chris showed it to her. I blame Chris. There was just something wrong when Darren held it though.
  3. You do know that they interviewed girl who put it together on an earlier Hak5 episode not long ago. It was interesting to hear the stories about how the interviews at security conferences where sometimes photography alone is frowned upon.
  4. MS has apparently run into some troubles with all the demand for the beta... http://www.crn.com/software/212701706
  5. I always enjoyed this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWWAlLRBZkc
  6. You need to download the specific driver to make it work with the wireless. I don't remember where, but it's on a microsoft.com site. BTW, Always get the driver yourself rather than relying on MS magic to get you a driver. That way you know what you're getting.
  7. I would think that if you licensed the use of the product it's fair game - from an ethical standpoint. Now if you go about selling it afterwards... One question: What would you see as the difference between "encoding" and "encrypting"? To you, it's effectively the same thing.
  8. That's awesome. Took the quad core cpu to push it over the top and it was only about 2/5 as fast as a single overclocked 8800.
  9. Quadros are generally better validated (tested) and don't update as often (firmware/drivers) as they would necessitate more validation. They also tend to be behind the pure performance curve, sometimes by a significant amount and cost more. Unless you need to be assured of the accuracy for 3d modeling, a quadro's a waste of a lot of money. Generally only businesses buy Quadro because they don't like surprises. GeForce will generally be faster because most humans only need "good enough" - and good enough can be really fast.
  10. and if you've got a valid key - who gives an expletive?
  11. Remember that you didn't get the idea to do this from us. And if you're on comcast watch your bandwidth usage. Invest in "soap-on-a-rope"
  12. DING! DING! DING! This is a man that DOES actually read the forums here! Given the computing efficiency of an older box like that, folding@home is going to probably use more electricity and generate more heat than it's probably worth. A disk server or web server are probably the most obvious choices.
  13. RetroMacCast WebbAlert RetroBits Systm Scam School All good stuff - along with the stuff above. Of course I still miss The Broken.
  14. I pasted your query into google and got some great links. You should try it sometime. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=I...mp;aq=f&oq=
  15. Don't use it. It's too expensive. I'd recommend buying ultimate! http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Offic...8&WT.srch=1 --- end of ahole mode --- Dude, you spent more time than a quick try would have taken. You also asked a VERY open source friendly site about an open source project, that's like going to PETA's site and asking about trying a spinach salad.
  16. Actually, it might not be the DNS server at fault. There is a hijack that sneaks into browsers, in my case firefox, that returns the proper results but translates all the links to "link-farm" sites. Look through these forums about firefox and there are some links to help you get it fixed. When I got it most AV systems didn't trigger on it. Good luck!
  17. Generally all US banks require this of non-customers. The reason is that they don't have you properly identified and if a bunch of checks start getting passed, they want to be able to ID the person that has been passing them. It's not as bad as it sounds and since you're obviously of no interested to anyone it won't be used. One advantage to 7 billion people on the planet is that you can't track everyone no matter how badly government wants to. Wanna know what pisses me off? It's when a bank charges me to cash a check drawn on their bank. That's just wrong.
  18. I'm kinda partial to hand axes. Much larger gets a bit dangerous given the small size of the DS.
  19. Unfortunately help desk software is VERY VERY political. Your best bet is to spend the weekend and set up a couple and let a couple of your users try it. The reality is that not one of them will do exactly what you want, the way you want it done. There is no "best" just like emacs and vi, windows and linux (and osx), .net and java. I believe we generally try to avoid religions here.
  20. Note that none of these block going directly to the ip address.
  21. I think we might need more details - like model. Generally expanders are not all that exciting to work with.
  22. The gateway to the POTS network isn't free.
  23. Boot IT NG is also a decent product for this. (Note, there's a trial version that just happens to work for this kind of stuff. Can even boot off of USB - awesome for my Acer Aspire One)
  24. Keep MS support on speed dial for when you have to get it replaced. Oh, and earplugs. It's loud.
