  1. Well, just to be clear Sparda, they were not actually asking me to fix the computer. They were just connecting to a network they were not supposed to be connecting to. Secondly, my boss asked me to try to identify who it belonged to and block it's access. Yes I can shut down that port for starters but they could just move to another one. I would like to gather more info and maybe block access to the MAC address. Hmm, maybe I can block that at the switch....
  2. <_< I was recently (unofficially) named as the Network Security guy at work. The other day I found a rogue pc on my network. I know I can find it's MAC address in my router tables and find out what port and what switch it's plugged in to. I would like to know, however, if there is anything else I can do if I cannot physically go there. Since I don't have admin rights to the box (probably someones personal laptop) all I can do is scan it and try to connect with password guesses. Is there any app that can help me remotely connect to it, remote control it or shut it down? Maybe it would make a cool segment for the show...
  3. Thanks for the responses guys. We actually believe we found it. Our WAN guy found it's MAC address on a port of a switch in another building. The room that it feeds happens to be the home of a particularly bothersome moron over there. As it also turns out, the 192.168.1.1 address it has is a duplicate of an interface of a switch already on our LAN so you can imagine how it is screwing things up. For now, I am disabling DHCP and changing the password and the IP it has. In the morning my boss wants to go over there with me to do a physical inspection and hopefully punch this guy in the face. I'll let you know how it turns out...
  4. Today at work, I discovered what appears to be a rogue Linksys router plugged in to my network. I found it by booting my virtual PC and it got a DHCP address from the "rogue". I was able to get admin privileges to the device because the dope left the pw as default. If this is truly someone trying to do something they shouldn't, is there a way that I can identify where this is on my LAN before I shut them down? For now I am going to try to find the MAC address in the routing tables on my switches. The last time I did that it took a while. Got any ideas?
  5. Nice site, very useful. Thanx! Quick (possibly n00b-ish) question. Is there a proxy switching app that'll connect to a site like this to automatically update it's proxy list? I mostly have used the Vidalia bundle but I don't think it'll do that. Just curious

That's pretty sweet, brings back memories.
  7. Update, I found the solution (for me at least). For those of you that have dual core you can DL the following ZIP. http://www.ut-files.com/Utilities/Dual_Core_UT_Fix.zip It contains a replacement .exe for your UT game in the system folder. Worked great for me, hope it helps others.
  8. I have this game and I just loaded it on my new laptop. I found out that it plays like crap because I have an X2 processor. I have read all sorts of threads on how to make it play nice with dual core but so far, no luck. Anyone out there found a solution for this? I'm dyin to play with everyone. Thanx.
