  1. I found this tutorial VERY comprehensive and easy to follow. I've had a lot of progress so far with it, but I've got a problem when clients are associating, they are getting a 192.168.0.100 range IP address. or sometimes none at all. I've followed the tutorial and *thought* i set it up for 192.168.2.* range. I know that the fon is 192.168.2.1 and my wired eth0 is 192.168.2.254. Home Router is 192.168.1.2. But when clients associate, they are given the wrong range and thus no connectivity. I *can* ping domain names from Fon. maybe seeing these will help diagnose: /etc/config/dhcp is as follows: config dnsmasq option domainneeded 1 option boguspriv 1 option filterwin2k '0' #enable for dial on demand option localise_queries 1 option local '/lan/' option domain 'lan' option expandhosts 1 option nonegcache 0 option authoritative 1 option readethers 1 option leasefile '/tmp/dhcp.leases' option resolvfile '/tmp/resolv.conf.auto' config dhcp lan option interface lan option start 100 option limit 150 option leasetime 12h list 'dhcp_option' '3,192.168.2.254' list 'dhcp_option' '6,8.8.8.8' config dhcp wan option interface wan option ignore 1 uci show network.lan network.lan=interface network.lan.ifname=eth0 network.lan.type=bridge network.lan.proto=static network.lan.netmask=255.255.255.0 network.lan.gateway=192.168.2.254 network.lan.dns=8.8.8.8 network.lan.ipaddr=192.168.2.1 Am I missing something?
  2. thanks appreciate the replies, but aside from instituting a better password, has anyone managed to get some kind of ..report emailed to you from DD-WRT or maybe an application in linux that hashed data taken from a log reader?
  3. I am hoping there is some kind of functionality for DD-WRT to alert me via email, when a new client joins my wireless network. Maybe specifically when a client receives an IP from DHCP. or whatever... bottom line is, I trust the security of DD-WRT, but maybe not my password? I want to know if someone else is on my router, and be notified via email. can it be done? thank you in advance
  4. Having a problem with drivers for the Alfa in Ubuntu. First off, the Alfa Detects and seems to be working with the RTL8187 drivers. However, I installed the latest R8187 drivers, and I get even more power/range and it supports injection etc... The problem I'm encountering is that when I use the RTL8187 drivers, I can't connect to my access point when it is encrypted in WEP or WPA. But when I 'rmmod R8187" and "modprobe RTL8187" I can connect to any AP. but the range really sucks. not satisfied. I would like to be able to connect to My WPA Access Point with the R8187 drivers. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks in Advance.
  5. What exactly are these new packages going to change? is it the webif interface?
  6. easycheese - your tutorial looks great! thanks for putting that together. I've been struggling off and on with setting up ICS for quite some time, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I'm currently working with the "piranha firmware" and it seems now that my main problem is that I CAN NOT get the 'connection type' drop down box to display all the options when I select DHCP. I've tried over and over going between static and back to DHCP, but just cannot get the options to come up. does anyone have any insight on this? am i missing something? or should i just not use this firmware and go with the version being used in the tutorial. thanks
  7. Does cowpatty work properly when using an essid that has a 'space' in the name?
  8. Are SSIDs case sensitive? example.. LINKSYS Linksys linksys Are these going to salt the password in 3 different ways? my guess is yes, but if someone knows for sure..?
  9. Works like a charm!! thanks very much Digininja! and if anyone is interested, merging 2 files in linux: cat file1 file2 > mergedfile And to sort it and have duplicate lines removed cat file1 file2 | sort | uniq > mergedfile
  10. Looking for a command or script to generate sequential numbers and save them to a text file. 10 digit long numbers (eg. phone number with area code), I would like to specify the starting number, and the end(or at least the amount of numbers). Could do this in Linux or windows. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
  11. I would really like to see a tutorial w/ screenshots on how to setup the Gargoyle LuCi interface for Internet Connection Sharing. Bonus for a tutorial on setting up ICS in Ubuntu Linux! Can that be done? Thanks
  12. I prefer Pstart. not as... chunky as portableapps.com application. I find it much easier to use and customize.
  13. So turns out what I was looking for all along was a "Personal Wiki". It suits exactly what I need. If anyone is interested you can find a few options here. This serves as a notepad that I can access from any computer/browser. I'm pretty sure I like instiki, it seems the simplest so far, and there is security on it.
  14. I flashed the new Piranha 2 on my fon, and have followed the instructions on the dimitar page there. I've been trying for about a week to get it working in Ubuntu on my laptop. I'm pretty sure I have everything set up on the Ubuntu side, but i think i'm missing something on the Fon. The instructions in the tutorial aren't for this LuCi interface. I think what i need to know is what the settings under Network -> LAN and WAN should be. DHCP, Bridged...? I have tried a lot of combinations. Clients connect, and get an IP (most of the time) but can't get it to dish out internet. Any help would be great. Thanks.
  15. Thanks for the ideas, but unfortunately Synergy won't fully resolve my issue. And Evernote looks great, except that it's mainly for Windows and Mac. There are tutorials for installing it in WINE in Linux, but I don't want to go there. Maybe I need to search harder for some HTML code for a basic 'paste-bin' clipboard web page template...
  16. I had great success with Idlebackup in XP. Backing up to a 1TB External USB Hard Drive. Has good functionality, and if it is important to you, it will only do it's backing up when the computer has been idle for X minutes. Another one to look at is Cobian.
  17. Hi Guys, I had an Idea I was hoping to get some help with. I find myself working on 3 or 4 different computers during the course of a day. 2 at work (1 XP and 1 Ubuntu) and 2 at home (1 XP and 1 Ubuntu). My problem is that I may be researching some topics on one system, find some useful information. But may need to transfer it over to another computer to continue with it there. I found that sometimes E-mailing myself links, instructions, lines of code works, but it's not as efficient as I would like it to be. I have apache set up on my home Ubuntu, and I was hoping to get some input on how I can set it up to be a personal 'clipboard' or post-bin web page to use between systems. I have seen a couple existing services on the net that are set up to do this, but I was really hoping to do this on my own system. I thought a really basic Blog type idea might work even.. Any Help/Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
  18. I've had Jasager installed on my fon for a few months now, and have been tinkering around with it, slowly getting it working, but I think I may have changed some settings, and can't remember what the last few things I changed.. and now it's giving me some problems. (clients won't stay connected) I want to try this new Firmware, but just wanted to make sure I've got the right idea here. If I am following along at this tutorial, at Step 11, I am going to substitute your new flash files for the old ones. And by using these new flash files, I won't have to install haserl, webif, ruby and jasager IPK files correct? I will just need to setup the password, enable wireless and any details on OpenWRT. What a great concept, and great forum for discussion about it. Thanks to digininja for the code and the support in the forum.
  19. I find OpenDNS to be really slow for me. I mainly notice when browsing to common websites, google, hotmail etc. Even when I go to OpenDNS website, it isn't quick, and my ISP DNS seems to be much faster. I have the Primary and Secondary OpenDNS IPs entered into DD-WRT on a WRT54GL. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Hmm, Can I add a few entries into DD-WRT to do the same thing as the HOSTS file in windows? add a few of the common IP's/Websites to the list on the router? Thanks
  20. Has anyone tried to incorporate Tor into this switchblade? I don't know if it's possible to automate the Tor - Vidalia install and have it run silent. I don't think it's a great idea, but something worth looking into. wouldn't the world be a better place with more Exit Nodes???
  21. I had the same problem as Combat Wombat. I have a Fonera 2100 0.7.0 r4. I was at step 10 - mtd -e "RedBoot config" write out.hex "RedBoot config" However, the line of output was - "Writing from out.hex" but it was missing the rest of the line. seemed like it hung halfway through. Anyways I left it to do it's thing for 4 hours, and when I came back the putty session had timed out, also the WLAN light was out. So now the WLAN light is still out and no network is being broadcasted. I've tried the long reset, unplugging power and finally connecting to it via wired connection, but can't quite figure that out. Any Ideas? Is this Fon bricked? do I need the serial cable?
