  1. I don't know what it was today, but I made up my mind and I'm going to dust off the books I bought a year ago and learn Java. I am going to start tonight and see if I can do it by this time tomorrow. Here's the book I will be using: http://www.mhprofessional.com/product.php?...isbn=0078825709 along with this book by Cisco: http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Program...pd_bxgy_b_img_a Time to breakout the Caffine
  2. I got these from a consulting job I did a few weeks ago. These are or can be a rare find.
  3. Was it still under warranty when broke? I am asking because I have extensive experience with Dell warranty service.
  4. Well at least you take care of it. Most of the users that I had to deal with when I worked for an insurance company treated the company notebooks like crap. Missing keys, food spewed all over the screen and palmrest, cracked LCD Bezel. Some of them put their notebooks in there bags and treat them like a diskus and end up breaking the screen. I think that they should have to pay for the repairs fir treating them so badly, but thats just my opinion.
  5. I was working on my roommates computer today because one of his HDD'd had failed. Long story short it was a Seagate 7200.11 with firmware version SD15. long story short the firmware shipped with this HDD is unstable and after a short time (6 months in this case) it died from corruputed firmware. While working on it I was reminded of this site: Hard drive sounds: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php Aw man, I just thought of a dirty trick. Get those HDD recording and make them play through the PC speaker inside of someones case, Muwahahahaha!
  6. That's if the sensor is working and not damaged or turned off. But in most cases it will not burn or explode. Yes, I know that's the marketing potential of notebooks that you can take them almost anywhere. All I am saying is just be careful. I have had some business clients abuse theirs until the damn thing over heated and almost burned their lap. And that notebook did have a temperature sensor in it. About the metal shards. That was referring to the one that exploded in Japan? I take it.
  7. Here's a good example of what could go wrong if the conditions are right (albeit rare): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeWq6rWzChw and here to: http://dvice.com/archives/2006/06/laptop_a...notebook_ex.php You can argue semantics all you want I was just ranting.
  8. Yah, the implication is is that if a salesmen or a tech imply that you can put it on your lap and you do and an injury results the company can be held liable for the injury.
  9. Just a small rant, they are not laptops (Argh!). They are called portables (As in portable computers) or notebooks. Laptop is a hard to get rid of marketing term which I cannot remember where it came from. How do I know this? I just happened to use to work for one of the biggest manufactures. Laptop is a dangerous term to use legally because of the number of bad things that can happen. Things like being burned by some notebooks because of the heat they generate or the battery that has a good chance to burst. Yes it still can happen. Portables were made to be put on a desk or a table (a flat surface). It is a mistake to put it on your lap because for one as mentioned above you cloths could cause the CPU and other components to overheat and after a while of the heat being applied and reapplied it will cause components to fail. Not only that the battery that you happen to be charging has a small chance of bursting if any internal damage in the cells causes a condition called a runaway. Some may argue that it hasn't happened to me me so it's no big deal, no worry. While that may be true the conditions described above can happen to any portable. That's it for me I'll get off my soap box now I would put more information forward about which manufacture and notebooks that are most prone to these types of failures, but unfortunately I am under a 2 year nondisclosure agreement until May 29th. Just be a little more cautious when putting your notebook near you lap. This has been eating at me for a while and I figured I would not be doing my job as a professional (and as a HAK5 fan) if I did not warn you guys.
  10. Hell yah. Seplutura (Max Cavalera) Morbid Angel Pantera Hatebreed Cradle of Filth Just to name a few
  11. Sorry to double post but this picture was taken around the same time I was taking pictures. I was taking pictures to the left from behind the tornado. http://www.younewstv.com/areas/kwtv/39402977.html#ynext
  12. That is so true brick houses do not fair much better against a tornado. Reinforced concrete does prevent flying debris, but not much can help against a direct hit As for it's a could statement I'll show you what that "cloud" did tomorrow when the police open up the roads. I can post more pictures if you want but there is not much to see other than dark gray clouds. My Sony DSC - H1 can only do so much. I 'll have to wait until tomorrow to get better pictures. If you guy want to look it up on kfor.com in Oklahoma. I am a few blocks away from where it hit in Oklahoma City. Here are more links http://www.koco.com/video/18685666/ http://newsok.com/storms-hit-oklahoma-city...ead_story_photo
  13. Yah, I watched it roll for a few minutes when it was horizontal. It was the scary kinda roll that had little stings of cloud sticking out because it was rolling so fast. Kind of like one of those rolling explosion clouds you see in a movie only it was cigar shaped.
  14. Well, I did have a funny thought. If the tornado did hit near the house he would have been Left 4 Dead.
  15. This was the most scariest yet awesome moments of my life. I heard the air raid sirens and looked outside and saw a white cigar shaped cloud flying horizontally over my house. For a moment I was like a deer in headlights. After a few second I shouted at my roommate we are going to need to take cover. And what was he doing! Playing left for dead what kind of moron plays video game when you about to be hit by (Count'em) 4 tornado's. You may argue that I was the one outside taking pictures, but atleast I knew when to take cover. Anyway here is one of the pictures I took as it was about to touch down, it was about 5 block away from me when it touched down. In the picture I am almost looking up almost through the bottom. It was still forming so you cannot see inside (The white cloud in the center)
  16. I gotta have one of these Language warning (In case you are at work) http://www.theonion.com/content/video/sony...stupid_piece_of
  17. Wow, it's nice to meet people with a good taste in music. I listen to almost every genre out there and sometimes get stuck, like last month when I went on a Frank Sinatra (And Jr) streak. By the way here is a link to my brother-in-laws band The Revolve: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=25569209 I can't help, but plug them. They are an awesome band. Every once in a while they will come back to play in Oklahoma City. I hope you guy's enjoy them.
  18. Hey, guy’s I just wanted to share a little music with everyone. Although, I am a jack of all trades when it comes to music there are a few genre’s that I listen to on a daily basis. For the most part I am hooked on Trance, Progressive, Alternative, Heavy metal, and last but not least Classical. As far as artist’s go, here are a few: Armin Van Buuren ATB Markus Schulz Stabbing Westward Plainview The Revolve Chopin Vivaldi This week I wanted to share some tracks with you guy’s so here they are: Flanders - Behind (Callea mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5GyDvCBS3U Masters & Nickson – Out There (5th Dimension) Daniel Kandi Bangin’ Remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4cBUrePjvs Monoral – Kiri This song is featured in a video intro for the Ergo Proxy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oT2W3gaUBc I hope you guy enjoy the music. Let me know what all of you listen to I am always up for more music.
  19. It would have been great to have the TCP layers next to the 7 Layer OSI model, but that may have confused some people especially if the layers involved in UDP were displayed. who's up for some subnetting?
  20. I understand the reason why the HAK5 crew need a Mac Pro, however, if there is a portable to be had at a lower price I can find one.
  21. I don't know really, I just took his word for it.
  22. If he is going to go to all that trouble then he should just wipe the drive with Kill Disk and reinstall and forget the Ubuntu, because he could just scan the data ha backed up with his anti-Virus if he has one. If he does not than Ubuntu solution would work.
  23. ACC's sounded just fine. Some of my old Mp3's from 7 years ago sound crappy due to the high compression that makes that awful noise in the background. As for other headphones that I can compare them to here are the previous headsets that I have had: Sony MDR-G42 (Pretty decent set) http://www.headphoneworld.com/p/Sony_MDR-G..._Headphones.htm Maxell HP/NC-II Noise Cancelling Headphones (Decent) http://www.maxell-usa.com/index.aspx?id=63...nfo&pid=138 I really liked the Maxell's until the left channel went out. I mainly use them for Music so I just choose a song that I know really well and test to see if I can hear differences in the highs, lows, and mid. I go through Classical, Rock, Trance, Progressive, etc.. to see how each handle different frequencies like distortion when the Bass goes low. I am no professional at reviewing I choose based on tech specs and on demo's that are available.
  24. These sound especially awesome when they're connected to my Sound Blaster X-FI XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional.
