  1. I've followed all of the directions noted here http://www.hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15269.

Up the the point of getting the fonera to connect to the internet.

    echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
    sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o wlan0 -j MASQUERADE

wlan0 because that is the device that is actually accessing my internet connection.

Im using a old eepc 900a running ubuntu.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

    I would love help.

    cheers,

  2. Some just don't see it.

You're right though, it shouldn't be correct to compare apples to ... hackintoshes and bargain PCs but those that drink the haterade are going to, deal with it. There are other factors involved too, like a typical Mac will last about two years longer than a similarly spec'ed PC and whatever.

I never, ever regret my Apple related purchases because I see it differently. I'm not stupid, there's a reason I (and many others) do it.

    I like this guy.

    Preach on.

  3. I don't see what the big deal is if people want to buy into the "i" trend. I personally love my mac and all of my random apple apparel. I didn't buy any of it for the trend aspect of it. I just liked it and still do.

This kind of reminds me of when I was in high school, when I was a sponsored skateboarder. I would get so upset over all the "posers" that would go around with skateboards and do nothing with them. But when I got older and better I realized that what does it even if they are posers or whatever. If people want to spend money on a overly expensive trend to look cool.................who cares?

It dosn't effect you or anyone else but themselves. Let them be ridiculous, and if they want to act smug over a computer ....... Just laugh at them ........ because they are not worth your time anyway.

mac vs pc should never be an issue.

  4. Love it; classy for sure.

I'd love to put the old rainbow logo on mine if I wasn't so terrified of damaging my only machine.

To tell you the truth it was relatively painless. Tedious, but painless. If you have ever taken apart a laptop or anything that you value, you will approach this with care and you will not break anything.

But in all honesty I was scared as hell to do it. Glad I did though.

  6. Read about Samba and network file sharing. Will it be just on LAN or over the internet? How much traffic would it see daily?

I wanted to use this as a internet server. And realistically I will not have many users during the day at all.I appreciate your help a lot.

I know this is probably small fish for you, and I really appreciate your help. My end goal is to make it far beyond help desk, and possibly a security specialist in the future.

I know I have to start at square one.

    Thanks again.

  7. I was just given a dell mini 9 and a 300gb wd passport external hd. Is it possible to turn this into a mini media server for me and my friends to access remotely? I've never setup a server before so i wanted this to be a a tiny project. But I have no idea where to start.

I'm just a help-desk guy I have no idea how to do these things. And the network admin at my co. has no idea how to help me with this.

I would appreciate any form of help.

I was looking at ubuntu server ed. tried to install it but I have no idea what I am doing. I wanted mac and pc users to be able to read and write to files.

    Thanks alot.

    cheers,

  8. I currently work at a company that sometimes requires me to go to locations and do on the spot troubleshooting and repair offshore. Granted most of my work offshore is malware removal and spyware checks, which I have malware bytes and spybot preloaded on a stick for that. How would you set a usb stick up for this. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    cheers,
