  1. Oh, never thought about it that way. I just suspected that they thought people would be more used to and more compfortable with an uBuntu-based distro. But I guess your right about the maintenance issue. Im guessing DingleBerries is more a slax man, but what about everyone else? Digip?
  2. Ahryt. Seems ive let myself fall out of the loop a little. I remember hearing rumours about BT4 being Ubuntu-based, but I didnt really believe it. I thought alot of people liked it being based on Slax.
  3. Wow, loads of great ideas guys. I tried BackTrack3 out a while ago actually, think it mightve been one of the betas though. Ill definately have another look at it though. Anyone know when 4's out? And sorry for the noob question, but whats a dropkit? Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep 'em coming :)
  4. Got a 2GB M2 card and a USB adapter for it lying around. Got no real use for it. Anyone got any ideas? Already got a 4GB puppy-bootable drive, so im cool for portable OSes. Was thinking about just shoving uTorrent on it and a bunch of hefty torrents to steal some of my schools download cap, because im sure ive blown my months limit a few times over. Im pretty short on ideas, so maybe someone can help me out. Thanks.
  5. Ah FAT32 did the trick. Cheers moonlit. :)
  6. Ohright Moonlit, cheers. Think i'll do that actually. That had come to mind earlier, but i wanted to be a smart-arse. Failed horribly though :P. Do you recommend FAT16, or 32? Thanks
  7. Hi guys. Im having problems installing a Puppy Linux variant (PupFluxLite) to my USB thumbdrive. See, I was hoping to: Use Gparted on the PupFluxLite LiveCD to partition my thumbdrive - 1 ext2 partition, and 1 Fat 32. Tell the Puppy installer to install to the ext2 partition. Be able to boot to pupFluxLite, but still be able to use the Fat32 partition on all the windows machines i use. But its really not working. When i make the two partitions, my PC wont boot to PupFlux ("Operating System Missing"), and Windows Vista only recognises the ext2 partition, and tells me to format it. And now ive just tried to make only 1 FAT partition, but its not having any of it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Great forums - dead friendly :)
  8. Yeah, i understand. MS will hunt you down.. But I gave in to temptation and downloaded me one, so im all good now :). Yeah, thanks for the advice. If VB6 is as old and outdated as you say, I dont know why Im being taught it either. I guess its only a Higher course in secondary school (from scotland :)), so its not vitally important. No doubt that when i get older and onto further education, il dabble in many more programming languages. Thanks.
  9. Cheers for all the replies :). Had a look for VB6 myself, and its pretty hard to get. Well, legitimately, anyways. Ive seen a few "portable" versions kicking about. Its tempting, but I think ill just wait until i get back to school to work on it. Again, thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
  10. Okay. Turns out I had saved it, just not put it onto my USB drive *blushes* Sooo I took it home, and fired up "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008". But its all weird. Its not recognising basic commands that were recogised at school, like "print" and "cls". Any ideas? Are the changes between versions big enough that programs written in old versions cant be run in newer ones? EDIT: I think ive worked it out. At school, i was working with VB6. At home, I have VB.net in Visual Studio 2008. Is there a difference? NOOOB.. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks for the fast reply. Aaaw man, bad times! Now i just gotta pray that i saved it on the computer i was working on.. When I open just the .vbp file, i does give the me address to a "form1.frm" file, so that gives me hope i guess. Thanks again.
  12. Im doing my computing studies coursework at the moment. It's really simple - just knock up a simple GUI, and design and implement a program for rating computer systems, all in VB. However, I think ive made thee biggest, noobiest mistake in the world. I only saved the project.. So i only went File > Save project as.. I expected that to also save the form aswell. So i took the saved files home to do some basic bug-fixing, and to optimize the code a little, and it's refusing to open due to the lack of "form1.frm". Am I missing something? Im afraid that I havent saved it properly, and have to start it again.. Thanks.
  13. I'm currently using an old laptop that does that. What's the ventilation like? Could be a driver problem, but I thought driver problems were followed by a BSoD? The problem with my laptop is faulty memory modules/slots. So it could also be a memory problem. All of this has been stated above ^. But as digip says, it's hard to tell without more details.
  14. Ill be keeping an eye on this project :). Keep us updated B)
  15. Wow, digip, that is crazy-awesome (I really wanted to use that phrase. Please dont judge..) Seriously. Wish I could do stuff like that. My creativity in the artistic department stops at around stick figures.
  16. Sweet project DingleBerries! Nice name too :P Ill be keeping an eye on this, fo' sho'! Pritchardo92
  17. @Leopo - How the heck you keeping your PC cool man? AMD Overclocked? Jeez. Soon to be PC: Intel E8200 OC'd. Gigabyte GA-blahblah 2 - 4GB RAM (Depending on prices and speed) A half decent sound card 2x 250GB HD Raid0 (hopefully, if i get a motherboard that allows) Lightscribe Optical drive Some other fancy stuff if Iv got any money left. Im so specific...
  18. Aww man, that sucks. Cheers for alternative link. Ill have a look into it. Thanks, Pritchardo92
  19. After having a bad experience with LockDir by KakaSoft (hmmm..), Ive been looking into encryption for my files on my USB drive. Alot of people kiss the feet of TrueCrypt, and from the description, i can see why. However, Ive got one problem. I mainly use my USB drive for school, quite a chunk for investigative hacking, but nothing malicious at all. So, if i create a truecrypt partition, would i be able to access it without administrative priveledges? If not, does anyone know of an alternative in which i can? Ive read about TrueCrypts "traveler mode", but it wasnt a very clear description. Thanks, Pritchardo92
  20. Wow, nice one. Thanks :). Ill keep that in mind while building, and will tell my friend asap. Cant beleive Ive never thought of that, nice one :). Thanks for all replies. :) Pritchardo92
  21. Thanks for all the comments! So you guys think Intel is the way to go? I was only really looking at AMD as I'm on a bit of a budget. Not quite sure how much of a budget, but I dont want things going above £400. I have had a look at the AMD spec, and most of the higher-end chip are running on 90nm fabrication, so I did expect a higher heat dissipation in comparison to Intel's, where most are 45nm or around that. Any recommendations for graphics cards? @ Keelbug: Cheers for listing you components. Has given me something to think about soundcard-wise. @ PLuNK: Same goes to you :) Cheers lads. *Another thing, a friend of mine is also building a PC, mainly for gaming. On his current PC, hes been using a External DVD writer. Hes wondering if this can be used to set up his new PC once built? Or is it a bit of a paradox, as drivers are needed for USB ports, but they need to be installed through USB..?
  22. Wouldnt that be offset though by OverClocking? The GigaByte motherboard I'm looking at getting seems to like OC'ing.
  23. Hey there. :) Ive started looking into building my own PC - for mild gaming, sound recording and editting, and general usage. I think I'm going down the AMD route, and I've found some nice, middle-range motherboards. I was just wondering, if the motherboard is in the form of MicroATX, do I need a MicroATX case? And also, what wattage PSU do you recommend? Thanks, Pritchardo92
  24. XBL: Prithardo92 One typo to rule them all One typo to find them... Mind you, in the process of getting my X360 repaired. Damn "Disc Unreadable" Errors. Means ill miss the release of NXE... WHY?!
  25. Thanks for replies guys. Sorry for lateness. Yeah, thats a good point. Ill have a check to see if theres a newer BIOS version out. Right now, mine is (from ReSysInfo) < General BIOS Information > Vendor : Unknown Version : DELL - 27d4010c Release Date : 01/12/04 '04... Jeez.
