  1. So many windows desktops :P No one loves Linux anymore?
  2. Thanks I got it working :) Just struggled to get the share write-able but got it fixed by adding writeable = yes on the smb config and running chmod 777 /path/to/share :) Thanks for the help.
  3. I did try the google machine, I just kept getting complex tutorials on using web front ends for samba and mounting samba shares in linux. I mist have used the wrong keywords or something. EDIT: This is the guide I kept getting :/ http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/wiki/in...ces_Using_Samba
  4. Hi guys. I've got an ubuntu 10.04 server I'm using a print/file server (newly setup) - I've managed to install and share the printer using samba. I've added a second hard drive, just a 160gb hard drive I'd like to store drivers and files on. How do I go about using the smb.conf file to share the entire drive?
  5. Sort of what I was thinking but I didn't want to say it out loud.
  6. I'm asuming you want it to get an address from whatever supplies your DHCP? If so, then you just click on the "start" menu, go to services -> network -> start network if I remember correctly.
  7. Hi all, I wonder if anyone knows any good (new) hacking documentaries out there? I enjoy watching them every now and then but all the ones I have are out of date :( Btw, once upon a time, there was a link floating around with direct downloads of all the security conferences videos, does anyone still have this? I've tried googling, but I think I might just be using the wrong keywords because I'm struggling :( Thanks!
  8. I'm speaking under correction, but aren't you supposed to set the LHOST as well? In your case, that should be 192.168.1.10.. Other members might help elaborate more. *ahem* mubix? :P
  9. I'm assuming that would be the DHCP server built into server 2003 and 2008? :) Also, in an attempt to speed up my browsing etc, what would be better, the public 8.8.8.8 google DNS, or OpenDNS? EDIT: - Scratch that, did some googling and it seems openDNS is the better option.
  10. Cool, thanks! Now next thing, should PFsense assign my DHCP address? Will the modem/router assign an address to PFsense and PFsense to the switch and all the other devices? I did some reading and I don't think I need a DMZ..
  11. Just read this: http://www.hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14105 It contains links like: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AVjKblex...qYmNy&hl=en
  12. So what does a DMZ actually do? I've never really used it before.
  13. Hi guys, My current network consists of this: DLink 4 Port DSL router/Switch, media player, one desktop and a laptop. Now I've gotten a DLink 4400 switch (24 port) and a Dell GX280 from work.. Now I'm thinking of deploying the dell as a pfsense firewall but I'm wondering how my network should change to accommodate it, and whether I need to get an extra NIC or would I just be able to run it with one? With two NICs, the topology should look something like this right? PFsense -> Router PFsense -> Switch Media Player, PC and Laptop -> Switch with PFsense as gateway Would it be possible to do it with one NIC like this? Router -> Switch Pfsense -> Switch Media Player, PC and Laptop -> Switch with PFsense as gateway Also, the Dell doesn't have a cd-rom, does anyone know of any method other than that to load PFsense? I've googled around a bit and it doesn't seem to be possible?
  14. Well, I just started with one windows XP service pack 2 and then one windows XP service pack 3 VMs and played with nmap and metasploit. There are a couple of distros out there setup specifically for testing though. Here's some I found on irongeek a while back: Deliberately insecure web apps
  15. Thanks man.. I'll try when I'm home again.. Any opinions on using untangle in a VM as an openVPN server?
