  1. you may be referring to the webcast Systm. There was a 5 part series on how to make a cabinet. Would be nice, but I don't have the room. :(
  2. I've been looking into makeing/modding a tabletop arcade cabinet. Primarily I was looking for an empty shell, then fill in the guts with a computer and roms of the Atari games I own. Software isn't so much the problem here though. It's the shell. They're not that easy to come by in my next of the woods, and making one in my downtown apartment isn't an option. I noticed there's a few places that sell them online, but they're $2000+ with everything inside. I could buy just the shell, but with shipping and conversion to Canadian, it would be about $1000. Considering all it would be is about $150 in wood + accessories , $40 for the I-Pac controller, and $70 for brand new joysticks and buttons, that's a far cry from $1000.
  3. I'm aware that doesn't mean it's THAT person, but the ISP could then get involved and provide the police with the appropriate information to continue the investigation. I could care less if I personally meet this person. I just want to give something to the police.
  4. *sigh* ... All we want to do is stop this from happening again. Money aside... cause I couldn't give a rats ass. I'll loose money, and I don't care. I'll just go to work and make more. I just don't want this happening to my friends, family, or more. And if everyone felt the same way (live and learn), then who would stop people like this from going, and going. And then they devolop more skill, and start getting into bank accounts and credit cards, and then they start affecting your services and quality of life. ... but now I'm just going into a rant and I really don't want to. My appologies. I'm just looking for some insight on how to establish some form of connection to obtain an IP to provide to the athorities. And as stated, I know thy'll probably "fluff it off". But if someone has done the leg work, I'm sure they must take things more seriously. This is identity theft in a sence. *edit* My ex is a close friend. And a friend that is willing to CHAT with someone to help another friend out. I advised her to only proceed that far, and even less if she felt un-comfortable. And truthfully.. she's cute and I don't blame him for wanting to chat ;) And I do appreciate the information on how to prevent this and how to alter one's online habbits and system access.
  5. I can verify EVERYTHING I've said via packets and screen shots. My ex girlfriend was contacted by him and being a horny young male, or just a horny male in general, they started a web chat after she had contacted me about the situation. Everyone has a style of speaking online / txt'ing, and she thought something was amis. As for the money, I'm sure we can pool together and give my friend some cash, but we just don't want this happening again. We have changed the password on the account several times, but the attacker gets in within seconds or sooner. I have NO idea how this is happening. My friend clicked on no links sent by friends. He thought it was threw brute forceing the "forgot my password question". He removed that but I do believe it's still occuring. And being as this is occuring within Canada, the RCMP will be the group we would get involved. Luckily I have a friend in the local police force who might know some people.
  6. This is a bit of a complicated story and I've had next to no sleep in the last 3 days, so bear with me. (thank god for spell check). My friend (John Doe #1) received a message on MSN Live from another friend (Jane Doe) asking if he could send some money. John Doe #1 said he didn't have any. End of conversation. Later, my friends MSN account (John Doe #1) was hijacked and someone was messaging people asking for money. This is where the story goes from stupid to bad. One of my other friends (John #2) actually sent him money. I say HIM because we were able to establish a webcam chat and took a screen shot. Now that we have SOME evidence, I want to try and track this person down even more. I could really use ANY suggestions. We are going to collect what we can and contact the police and present what we have found. Otherwise I'm sure they wouldn't take it too seriously. --- Notes: The person is requesting online transfers only. When I recommended I could go to the bank and perform a transfer via that method, they declined. I tried to capture packets, but found that MSN routes threw seemingly random servers. Have not tried to transfer any files at this time, but am very willing to social engineer this into the equation.
  7. Here are a few more for the collection and by no means the only ones I used to watch. Just no point in repeating something 400 times :) Hercules C.O.P.S Mask Willow The Wisp Dr. Snuggles Earthworm Jim My Pet Monster Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors Ghostbusters (the one with the big ape lol) THE RACCOONS!!! (yes.. I'm Canadian) ok.. last time I come in and edit this, cause I keep thinking of more... Super Mario Bros. Super Show The Legend of Zelda Capitan N: The Game Master Garfield and Friends There used to be a 30 minute video online of 80's cartoon intros, but it's disappeared. I guess for now, we'll have to settle for this series. 80's Cartoons Intro Overload! Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46jF-OnHQTE
  8. Ok.. so anyone stating Office Space is a hacker movie should be slapped. Yes, it is an AWESOME movie, but the VERY brief moment of "hacking" shouldn't qualify it for this list. Pi, I believe, would also fall under this category. I would have to say Sneakers has everything beat by a long shot. It has the computer hacking. It has phreaking. It has social engineering. It is a movie of thinkers and doers. Hackers will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the movie that changed me from a metal loving dork, to a techno lusting geek. :) Thank you Acid Burn and Zero Cool. And if I may make a recommendation on a movie to steer completely clear of, it would be Firewall. HORRIBLE movie. The only saving grace is that Harrison Ford played the main role. Some other movies I don't recall being mentioned that may interest you are The Net, The Net 2.0, and the Bourne movies. They had a few interesting gadgets and notions that you may find entertaining.
  9. None of this surprises me. Every large origination is like that. I've got a little story. It's about someone here in Canada. We'll call him Timmy. Timmy went to a computer shop and purchased 3 computers that were used, and on for a VERY good deal. After purchasing them and taking them home, he noticed stickers indicating "Property of US government". Two of the computers were clean, while one was completely unformatted. On it, were resumes, SSN's and names of over 200 enlisted personnel, and various military documents including disposal procedures for military sea craft. This all occurred over 4 years ago. So not only are governments not keeping an eye on their information, but cooperations as well. I don't foresee an end to this any time soon.
  10. 71? That's it? I've lived in Canada my whole life, and have been working 11 years now, and I only get a 71? *phhff*
  11. I've had this idea floating around my noodle for some time. I had this idea since around the time Johnny Mnemonic came out. My thought was to use a file for the key. If a prearranged file could be determined (like notepad.exe), you would use the information contained within (ascii or the likes) as the key. I have next to no knowledge of encryption that would be of any use, so I have no clue if that would even be possible.
  12. In reply to this.. *sigh* .. I used to work at a Wally World (Canadian). I can't officially speak for all stores, but the 2 I worked at did not install any 3rd party applications on any machines that were on display. They were generally kept "clean" so they could infact be sold later as they sell displays after no more units can be shipped to the store. I may not know as much about computers as some, and I certainly don't claim to. Not all employees are incompetent. I know my way around a computer or two, and a few fellow employees went to school and were either qualified engineers (retired), or programmers trying to make a few extra dollars during the school year. I know there was no real harm intended, but you never know who you will bump into.
