  1. Isnt that test the same as the method you describe here: ? http://www.digininja.org/interceptor/install_walkthrough.php I;ll try it again on a machine that's not running the ubuntu network manager and see if that helps, I doubt it will though. Is this they method you mention: http://wiki.cuwin.net/index.php?title=Flas...ra_with_OpenWRT ?
  2. I'm in the UK. I have tried it by running redboot.pl and then powering the fon but it still does not connect. I did try powering the fon and then the computer, to let the computer dhcp from the fon, this way the fon had an IP of 192.168.10.1 and the laptop was given 192.168.10.103. If the fon is 'listening' on 0.0.0.0 then is there a way to reflash these units or did I just waste 30 quid?
  3. I repeated the process a few times with no results. From reading about it would seem that the Fon will only respond to a telnet request for a very small time, and it seems that the pinging is to find that window and trigger telnet as soon as the fon is ready. I think the problem I'm having is linked to the ethernet connection on the laptop taking longer to connect to the router than the router does to boot up. Is this likely?
  4. Ok, so my Fon+ finally arrived and I set about installing interceptor, so I boot ubuntu, set the wired ethernet port to 192.168.1.254 using: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.254 up which seems fine, then I run redboot.pl with: ./redboot.pl 192.168.1.1 and that's as far as I can get, the ping is never acknowledged so the script never moves onto the telnet, I've tried telnetting manually but of course that does not work. What am I doing wrong here, I must be missing something basic.
  5. Then in the imaginary land of ideal physics, one could use a UPS to generate the mains electricity from batteries and run the xbox. The XBox would draw 185W but I dont know the power factor of it, that would need to be mearsured, but lets go worst case and call it .6 like some older computers. This would mean 308VA for the XBox. Working out how long that will last for a UPS is tricky, but I found a table on the 'net that says a 1000VA UPS would drive that load for 45 minutes, and you would get best part of three hours from a 2.2KVA unit, however you do need two people to move those things. The other way would be direct drive, I dont know the XBox PSU, but if the output is a simple 12v line then I'd suggest a direct DC line, just plug it into a bank of (parallel) car batteries. The current could need to be measured again though, as the wattage of 185 if the mains power, what it will draw at 12v is going to be different.
  6. Right, someone with both an XBox 360 and a 'kill-a-watt' style power meter please connect it up and tell me how many watts the xbox consumes while playing a game, not while idling. From there it will be a very simple matter to work out what kind of battery & inverter or direct DC supply will be needed for a given amount of game time. The watt rating on the power supply is not relevant here, we'd need actual consumption figures.
  7. Check out some of Ben Heck's work in this area, he's made various portable 360's. If you dont need it pretty though, just get a cheap inverter and plug it into a car.
  8. There's an app for OSX that allows full file system access to the phone from the computer that works on non jailbroken systems. So yeah, getting at the files is do-able. There are some lockbox type applications in the app store that will store and encrypt passwords and the like, but full file system encryption is not possible.
  9. I'm surprised by some of the responses here. People seem to think that not broadcasting the SSID helps security, or that MAC filtering is useful. Encrypt the wifi with WPA2 (not WPA) and use a long, non dictionary encryption key, something like: 1f/3564z^$s5fg-(kd62+;'2^w73n9sg4516 and you are good to go. WPA2 with non dictionary password has not been hacked yet and can be considered safe. If you want to say I'm wrong here, then you'll need to at least link to the evidence :) Oh, and for the record: SSID: wifi Broadcast: ON

    wii opened up?

I believe the files are copied back into the Wii before execution and then cleared down on exit. The code does not execute from the SD itself. The only real improvement is the HCSD upgrade to allow larger cards.
  11. I missed the start of this heist so I missed out on most of the missions, I'll have to pay more attention next year!
  12. Yes, but you really should have stated that the link you posted is a referal link that will entitle you to an extra app if someone buys the bundle using your link. There's no problem with it, but full disclosure is generally considered better than not saying anything. I have purchased the bundle, and I think it's quite decent, even if I mainly bought it just to be part of the event and encourage a MacHeist 4 to happen next year. Nothing like this exists in the world of Windows software, so it's worth encouraging.
  13. What 'flavour' of vnc? What platform is it for?
  14. I've shot myself in the foot here, as it seems that the only place to get one in the UK is Dabs/BT or Fon.com. I'm not about to place the order with BT after canceling the Dabs order and I wont re-order it from them as I vote with my wallet when it comes to customer service, so I placed the order with fon.com Wouldnt you know it, their standard delivery estimate is three weeks!!
  15. USB is a standard, its 5v at up to 500ma. Nothing else. If you get ANY voltage other than 5vdc from a USB port, then it's faulty. Therefore if a device can charge from the same port it uses for data transfer, then it wil be safe to connect this to any usb port with any cable.
  16. Right, I placed the order with Dabs on Sunday, and I just spend a frustrating 30 mins with their web based text chat customer services while I was told it would take a further 24 to 48 hours to authorise the order, that would mean an order placed Sunday would not be dispatched until Thursday? That's crappy service in anyones book. I cancelled the order.
  17. Excid3, thanks anyway. Ordering from dabs looks to be the easiest way so I'll place an order for it now.

    Apple

There's a difference between hardware and software. If you buy an application on the iphone, and then delete it, you can buy it again, but you get a message saying that you have already pai for it, so you can download it with no charge. iTunes songs should operate in the same way, the only cost to apple for this would be bandwidth usage, and maintaining a database of iTnues ID's and the full list of everything you have purchased (which they likely have anyway)
  19. Well, I've tried to send you a message, excid3, but I dont know if it worked, there's no message showing in the 'sent message' section of my control panel. I'll retry later.
  20. A Fon+ for the UK seems more expensive than the US versions at £30, which google claims is $43, thats before any shipping charges of course. If there's any way to get a discounted one in the UK then I'd love to hear it and get started playing with these great pieces of kit. I'm guessing these codes are for the US only though?
  21. Is there a link to this app? All I can find is http://www.iphonemodem.com/ which is not free, and also does need an app installing on the iphone, from you post I got the impression this as a PC app, and free at that, that would work with a non jailbroken iphone?
  22. I think it's very good, but not very useful - who wants a screen that you only see when the computer is turned off? Plus, I couldnt find much info on the hack and the item is now on ebay after getting lost of publicity in various blogs. It seems like this was intentional.
  23. That's actually pretty cool. It's also another reason not to use outlook! I'd suggest getting some VPN connections setup for the support staff so they can do this kind of thing directly.
  24. It looks like the initial post describes rebooting the computer in to the bios in order to remove the windows password? That makes no sense at all. To the original poster: if that's what you did, then you need to start right at the beginning because it's clear you dont have a decent grasp on how computers work. Also, while you are at it, could you possibly learn to spell? Thanks.
  25. Sorry to hear this, I hope you dont end up losing any data. As for what you may be doing wrong, well there's a few things. Firstly you may want to post your question at the FreeNAS forum's as they may be more equipped to help. Secondly, you would need to provide some information about your setup (FreeNAS version, hardware type, drive configuration at the very least) and thirdly, you have provided no information on the actual error, "it says error." is not enough for anyone to be able to help you. Again, sorry you are having problems.
