  1. For those who are getting this error: root@OpenWrt:~# ipkg install jasager-madwifi_1.ipk Installing kmod-madwifi (2.6.21.5+r2568-20070710-atheros-2) to root... Nothing to be done Done. Collected errors: Package kmod-madwifi md5sum mismatch. Either the ipkg or the package index are corrupt. Try 'ipkg update'. The reason why is because you've executed the "ipkg update" command before installing the jasager-madwifi_1.ipk. To fix this problem, just edit the /etc/ipkg.conf and comment out the first 2 lines which relates to downloads.openwrt.org. Cheers,
  2. I would recommend booting into redboot and install openwrt that way. You can find the tutorials on the openwrt website.
  3. The performance gain is little but it's noticeable. One thing I did find out by testing is the stock SMA cable that comes with the FON is crap comparing to one I soldered with. I just bought 2x 10dbi antennas on ebay and when I get some time, I'll compile different types of performance results.
  4. i'm back again with my finished 2nd antenna mod. I managed to find a spare SMA connector from a janked Wifi PCI card. It was kind of a pain to solder the 2nd antenna but I managed to do it after 15 minutes or so. Make sure you tin the golden pads before attempting to solder on the board. Also another special note, don't be a dummy like me and take out the board while soldering. I slightly melted a bit of my plastic housing :\ bah. Hopefully I can get some signal strength stats and you guys can compare with the stock one. I should have done it before the mod :\ what's next? I'm thinking of attaching a directional antenna and link it down the street with my neighbor using WDS. Hopefully we'll have some fun times playing Gears of War on LAN. Check out my link if you want to see what the antenna looks like. p.s. 500K attachment upload limit isn't alot btw. If anyone wants to see more pics of the dual antennas or directional antenna, please visit my flickr page @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/64336055@N00/ If you guys have any questions, let me know. Cheers guys.
  5. I'm not sure where your from but you can get the parts at your local radio shack or electronics hobby store.
  6. I've attempted the solar panel mod before using 6 panels. It'll work for couple of minutes and power will cut off because solar isn't recharging the capacitor faster than what the Fonera is trying to use. One thing I didn't try and works in theory is to replace the capacitor with a higher capacity and let it charge for like an hour then boot up Fonera. Not sure how long it'll last but it should last longer than couple of minutes.
  7. I've attached my personal battery pack build. I've unsolder the stock red/black wires and directly soldered the adapter plug wires which I've found from a old cellphone charger. After I used heat shrink tubing for the wires to make everything nice and tidy. Yes, the tie wrap is kind of ghetto but it's secure and cheap. I don't like how velco leaves a residue after you try and remove it. I'm thinking of using a directional antenna I had kicking around and strap that together as well. It's going to look like a strapped beast :) My next mod will be to break the Fonera open and add an extra antenna for diversity and performance. I'll keep you guys updated as I get the part in the next few days.
  8. i built the same exact thing using the same parts. i used 4x duracell ultras and it lasted almost 8 hours with medium usage. I'll post some pics of my build in a bit.
  9. Has anyone encountered this error when installing? Also when you try and access the Jasager interface, it'll say ruby not found. I assume ruby package should be part of the requirements but it's not listed? root@OpenWrt:~# ipkg install jasager-madwifi_1.ipk Installing kmod-madwifi (2.6.21.5+r2568-20070710-atheros-2) to root...
