  1. yeah I was kinda hesitant about the size of the key board, I'm a big guy, and I have big fingers. But its great no problems. I also recently learned that the Intel Atom processor is a dual core. Gonna upgrade to 2gb very soon.
  2. So I just picked up an Asus EEEPC 1000H. I'm pretty impressed with this little device. The first thing I did was to put eeeubuntu on it, but man am I impressed with the hardware quality of this device. Nice and sleek, sturdy, but not heavy a great netbook. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips about getting the most out of this little guy and / or any picks of their UMPCs with hak5 shwag.
  3. Ahh I see well I guess some of us never stop learning ;-D
  4. Yeah that's what I have setup now, just trying to think outside the box and simplify things.
  5. Can't we all just get along? Can't we all just get a laugh out of the title, "How can I pwn thee, let me count the ways." I would welcome anyone who picks up a laptop and simply wants to learn and explorer. I mean when it comes right down to it, isn't that why we're all here? To explore the unknown, to push the evelope of what is possible, and what is not. Anyway thats enough of my proselytizing. TRUST YOUR TECHNOLUST
  6. That may indeed be the center of the problem. Each site is seperated by a cisco router that connects to verizon's switched ethernet cloud. So in fact I don't think that the Astaro firewall will be able to see the mac address of any device not on the same lan. Bloody Hell... i suppose this is going to be much more work than I had hoped heheh.
  7. I do have the luxury of an Iphone so watching on the go has been easy and I have been able to watch every episode. However, as I am still a noob to hak5 (certainly the forums) perhaps that doesn't afford me the right to "argue either way." I work for a production company and I can assure you, a show like hak5 is no easy task. It might be a good idea to be magnanimous about criticizing a cast member or the show as a whole seeing as how they aren't being paid for it. Regardless, I don't mean to turn this forum into a downward spiral of insults and indignation. All I'm saying is give Matt a break.
  8. @CyberAssassin: You seem to know what it takes to create an IPTV show like hak5. Have you or the people you talk to ever produced a show like hak5? If so, please post the link. I'm sure we would all like to take a gander. @Hak5 Team: Keep up the good work ;)
  9. I'm really surprised at all the hostility. I know I'm a noob to the show I mean I've only been watching since the beginning of season 3, but wow... you guys have no faith. Give Darren a chance to <!--removed by scanning subsystem--> up before you flip out. J/K DK BTW Darrren... I just want you to know that I feel the show is great, in fact in my opinion the segments became better as the show progressed, I like the little bit of polish you guys have been applying. I'm a mac nerd, so more segments about those of us on the other side would be great, I would love to work with you guys on anything your working on. To all the rest of you.... chill out, and wait for Sept 8th.
  10. Yes, true I could simply vpn into a box with a static nat out to the internet. However I'm looking for a way to pipe internet access directly to the mobile device. I would rather not rely on a physical machine. Rather it would be nice to setup a rule that allows a device to connect to the internet by Mac address rather than IP address, I have a call into Astaro about that, but they haven't gotten back to me.
  11. Here's the issue I have a mobile device that roams throughout the network. Each location is it's own subnet. Internet access in provided by a central firewall running astaro. I need to give my mobile device un-hindered access to the internet. I am the network administrator, however astaro does not let me specify a mac address as a device to give access to. I can specify a static IP for my device, however each location within the wan has a local router that communicates through verizon's switched ethernet. So when I specify a static IP for my device I can't communicate with the local router because I would have to change the DG for every location. I need the astaro firewall to authenticate my device's mac address and forward the IP traffic. Any help would be great! Thanks, 3v
  12. Damn straight Darren! I don't know what some people need to pick apart a simple post about a particular piece of hardware. I've been looking for a small compact notebook for mobile use for a while and I was not satisfied with the eeepc. Perhaps I'll look into the acer. I do have a question though, with the speed benefit you get from the ssd drive, is worth it to sacrifice the storage space? Personally I can't decide I'm wondering what you think. Thanks, 3v
