  1. Ok, fair point. But to echo Die hard 4, its a real country with real people. Yes, you can have an oppressive regime that commits atrocities like Tienanmen square and forbids their citizens from looking up information on it, but I draw the line where a hackers actions cause harm to the people of the country as opposed to just the regime. Helping to bypass internet filters, that is fine. Causing problems for their communications systems (just an example) would not be. Its just causing problems for the everyday person. How is that acceptable? As per the Iranian election. We shouldn't be overtly seen as meddling. That is exactly what Ahmadenijad and his thugs want. We'd give them the power to pull out the anti-western card again, and rant about how we're meddling in their affairs. I believe we won't have good relations with Iran while he is in power. We have a President that is willing to make a genuine move for good relations with Iran. Why give Ahmadenijad more ammo for his propaganda machine?
  2. I think that if a government is intentionally trying to control access to what most of the world considers to be public information, then yes, it is morally acceptable to try and overcome those blocks. There is that age old example of how China filters out websites that contain information on the Tienanmen Square massacre. Nations have a right to keep national secrets and defense information confidential, but I draw the line when it comes to restricting access to information that the majority of the world considers to be public information. Hacking networks merely to cause damage and distress is just malicious though, and I don't see that as acceptable. Not to mention if people start hacking Iranian networks and meddling you just boost Ahmadenijad's power.
  3. 928, which covers from parts of Southern AZ all the way to Northern AZ
  4. I'm going down with a few friends I worked with in college I think. Never been to DefCon before, but I've been to Vegas quite a few times. Just make sure to stick to the Strip area, Vegas isn't exactly a crime-free place.
  5. Its illegal technically, but its one of those "I think my neighbor is a serial killer" calls. Law enforcement get all sorts of crazies calling them daily that they'll likely shrug you off as part of the tin-foil hat club. Good luck finding a cop who will be willing to investigate it seriously let alone one who understands how to investigate something like that. Its such a joke of a claim that no one outside of your local police dept. or sheriff will even field your call unless you have evidence of something major like child porn or something. Edit* I asked my roommate who is a dastardly copper what he would do if someone called and reported that someone was gaining unauthorized access to their wireless network. His response was "What? You can do that?" I rest my case.
  6. If you don't like doing what you're doing now, then switch. You should be enjoying your classes in college (well, most of them atleast). You're going to be stuck with that degree for the rest of your life. You can get into IT with many different degrees as was mentioned above. Do what interests you the most.
  7. I see this just like I view foreign adoptions. I think its stupid that Americans go adopt kids over in Asia when there are plenty of children that need adopting here. Like celebrities getting all that press for adopting African orphans. There are orphans in Hollywood right down the street who need families too. I won't donate money to some cause in another country. There are homeless people here, orphans here, natural disasters here, so why donate elsewhere? Americans donated millions a few years back when the Tsunami hit Indonesia and other countries to feed and house people on the other side of the planet, meanwhile there are homeless shelters in the US closing because they don't have enough funding.

    ...

unnecessary. After a few days Portugal will likely have had enough of my sister and will have expeditiously sent her back.
  10. I'll turn off my lights, but I ain't turning off my computers <_<
  11. No warrants are needed to search you and your possessions if you are entering or exiting the US. Probable cause isn't needed either. Its called a Inbound/outbound Customs search. Is there a big difference when it comes to electronic data? That is what I want to know.
  12. There may have been a law enforcement vehicle rolling code with Star Wars music blaring at some point today....I'm not admitting to anything, but it may have happened on more than one occasion. When I used to work in IT, we didn't have uniforms, so it was strictly thinkgeek type clothing. Our bosses actually encouraged it. It was a university IT dept. so we had a lot of leeway in what we did.
  13. The government can't search your hard drive without cause. That includes iPod's. The only place in the US where you your 4th amendment protections are severely limited is when you are leaving or entering the US. NO warrants are needed. All that being said, if you aren't entering or exiting the US, this treaty has no effect on you whatsoever, since no law enforcement agency has the authority to conduct those kinds of searches inside the US. One last thing, this treaty does not override constitutional rights. If the courts in the future want to decide that this constitutes an illegal search, they can do so, and the treaty is voided on the US-end.
  14. People at work have teased me for being "nerdy" in their words. And, in law enforcement, once people find something they can tease you about, they will only stop if they see it doesn't get a reaction from you. So, naturally my solution was to ramp up the nerdiness. I call it my "In your face approach," and it is a success.
  15. IAFIS Biometric Federal law enforcement database. I love scanning people's fingers and watching the look on their faces when they realize they can't come up with any lies that'll save them.
  16. I agree that it is called a concession stand. The food court would be the area where there are lots of tables to eat at surrounded by various different fast food restaurants.
  17. awesome picture. I woulda been scared shitless had I been in your shoes

    COD 4 vs. COD 5

COD4 but I still think that the MP maps on COD4 and COD5 are too small. My only real gripe with the game. COD5 was a good game, but didn't really bring anything new to the table for me.
  19. I discovered Nos the other night. Its not too bad tasting and it really works. Half a can had me up and going for a while
  20. damn, I dunno if I'd have room for that on my desk
  21. I suggest a Glock. Though i'm kinda partial to my HK P2000 .40 too
  22. get one of those gps tracking things in the computer. And get a ccw. I'm just sayin' B)
  23. I'd be afraid that they'd beat me up. I would have definitely given them whatever change I had.
  24. I had one with colored stickers on it. I got pissed and took off all the stickers and put them back on to make it look like I completed it.
