still learning

I have always used wired desktop pcs, and am getting a latop very soon. I have seen people recommending a FON on here, how much better does it make the signal? Like in one of the videos I think one of the dudes got a range of like 1.5 miles. Also what kind of apps or hardware would you suggest I would need for wardriving? (Im guessing just BT3 live cd would work) thanks

great suggestions, i forgot about some of those.. why would running 1 firewall and 1 virus scanner be overkill? also Vako, thanks i checked out the link but that was gear to make the DOS prompt look like a Linux prompt, i just want to edit how the DOS prompt looks per say if in cmd i enter "prompt $T$B$p$g" then hit enter the prompt will look something like "12:04PM | C:\>" with the time added in front, i would just run linux if i wanted a linux prompt =) in older versions of windows i would put the prompt command change in autoexec.bat file and it would automatically boot so the prompt would always look how i wanted it too, but with XP it does not seem to be working.. any ideas? What are some must have windows apps? I am trying to build the perfect windows install then going to back it up with norton ghost, so i dont have to reinstall everything , everytime i format. so far i have : firefox, tweaked out , good plugins mirc toosies? side bar (i am still looking for a sidebar that works with xp and uses vista gadgets) comodo firewall AVG antivirus spybot and adaware process explorer cports hexeditor, php, dev-c++, notepad++, dreamweaver. macromedia flash, photoshop superscan, nmap, intellitamper, brutus, accessdiver, proxy finder enterprise, metasploit, ophcrack, true crypt, charon putty filezilla utorrent wise registry cleaner cc cleaner free ram xp any good windows tweaks to speed up the pc? what other must have programs would you recommend? does anyone know of a side bar that works with xp but can use vista gadgets? also how do i pimp my command prompt out, i know the code (prompt $p$g, ect..) but how do I get it to load the new prompt i create everytime i goto cmd? i tried to change the autoexec.bat file to @echo off prompt $p$g$T$whatever but it did not show the new prompt change when i goto cmd.. any ideas? thanks

I have heard about how easy metasploit is to use, can anyone please post the Hak5 episode links? The only one i seen was on youtube and all they said is how easy it is to use. Not how to use it, i installed it and dont fully understand payloads, metasploit command line features , variables and such.. since it is your brother you have physical access which will make it ALOT easier, try looking into what im doing with the SAM file and rainbow tables in the other thread, boot a live linux cd and copy the SAM file then crack from there, hak5 has a 120GB rainbow table i found on torrent but just dont have the space on my HD :-( once you have his PW and admin access you can do whatever you want

Comodo firewall, i used to use zonealarm but it sucks and yes with windows you will need the built in windows firewall plus another one linux is a different story

English of course.. then HTML sort of good with PHP and .BAT programming trying to learn C++ and assembly (have books on both just not enough time to read threw them all) but im slowly learning, my first C++ project im still working on is a UD keylogger, also reading a book on shell scripting.. i guess I have ADD or something i cant just sit and read threw a whole book, its like i read a couple chapters switch to another book read some, ect..

ok I have been playing with ophcrack, and made several user accounts on my machine to crack, one which the PW is very easy 6 digits numbers/letters combo, one that is 9 digits same number/combo and one 10 digit which contains symbols/numbers/letters.. it will not find the PW for the symbol/number/letter combo PW.. why is this? Does rainbow tables or ophcrack not crack *@#&.$^ symbols in PW's? I heard it can not crack PW's over 14 digitss eaither.. I seen Hak5 released a 120GB rainbow table which i would love to download but dont have the space on my drive for it.. can anyone help me out with the questions above, or help me out with a link of a good 10 to 30GB rainbow table? I also seemed to have problems adding rainbow tables to ophcrack, it will only let me edit a current table to switch it to the newer rainbow table i found a 1 GB table i have been useing along with the ones ophcrack comes with. Ive tried installing it and the live cd both thanks!

Honestly i use my xbox 360 for most of my gaming.. unless its a game like world of warcraft or PC only game. I have not tried the games mentioned above, ive been too busy playing saints row 2, civ revolution, and halo 3 :-) I played WoW for about 2 weeks and got bored, i will probuly play again in a couple months for another couple weeks, and so on.. Gears of war 2 looks promising, havent got to try it out yet though. Along with Huxley MMOFPS game should be nice. I help with a site directed towards xbox 360 gaming if anyone is interested their is alot of hacks and cheats and reviews and such.. its www.live-xbox360.com , i would love to get an old PC box, build a case and make a mame arcade machine , which would be awesome, yes im a gamer i started with duck hunt and super mario

My dad used to own a large locksmith business, I have everything, and know how to use alot of it =) I also have not been to a 2600 meeting or any type of hacking conference since like 1996, i got out of it in highschool and am trying to get back in now, so i have alot of learning and catching up to do before i attend one i think

set up a server (irc, http, ect..) i guess anything except for a file server, 4 gigs of files would not be all that great for a file server you can fit that on a thumb drive or if it has usb hook up a 500GB usb drive to it for more storage and make a file server, or you could set up a telnet BBS use it as your ass machine, and run all your malicious codes on it, there are alot of things, just depends on your needs. if you have kids make it the kids PC since they tend to mess up computers all the time while learning. I have not heard of useing a PC just as a firewall.. if anyone could link me to more info i would appriciate it. I ussually use my router for the extra firewall capabilitys along with comodo or such

Oh ok thanks, i was trying from DOS and did not add the bbs subdomain , i look forward to playing some old school door games =) edit: I see I have to register again for the BBS? and you also use synchronet.. nice.. i had a synchronet system set up for a while, its good software, does Hak5 also use it for http, ftp, irc, ect?.. just wondering because i set up my server useing all of those with synchronet and wanted to know how good of security the http in synchronet was compared to apache/2, thanks
