  1. hmm yes, the first two wan kinda easy, but number3? maybe i have to wait till next episode to get more hints.. :/ <> I believe @snubs will be doing a helpful segment on the next episode. </> But must say, hunts like these are fun :D
  2. I got me a Lenovi S10e the other day. I have also been looking at the other 10", but got such a nice deal on the lenovo. It only has a 4GB SSD drive, so i only use that for os, and a 160GB for the rest. * Intel Atom processor N270 * Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset * Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 * HDD: 80 or 160 GB2 (2.5-in, 5400 rpm) or open depending on model * 4 GB SSD (selected models) * 1 GB of memory * Integrated 10/100 Ethernet * Integrated Bluetooth wireless technology * Broadcom 11b/g6,7 Network Connection * 10.1-inch WSVGA LED Backlit glossy display on the S10e * Integrated 1.3-megapixel camera on S10e models * Three-cell Li-Ion battery * Two USB 2.0 ports * 10/100 Ethernet port ++++ Now the only thing i might want to change is the 3 cell battery with a 6 cell, but the 3 cell looks so nice in the computer, and its not that often i'm more then 2.5 hours without any power.
  3. I tested out the notebook remix at first, but ended up going with the standard desktop version also. But you can just run sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook-remix to get it and run on top of the standard.
  4. PsLogList is your tool. You can make a .bat file and fill inn all the commands needed to get the events from all your servers. Then make a Scheduled Tasks to run your .bat file as often as you want. :) Using PsLogList The default behavior of PsLogList is to show the contents of the System Event Log on the local computer, with visually-friendly formatting of Event Log records. Command line options let you view logs on different computers, use a different account to view a log, or to have the output formatted in a string-search friendly way. usage: psloglist [- ] [\\computer[,computer[,...] | @file [-u username [-p password]]] [-s [-t delimiter]] [-m #|-n #|-h #|-d #|-w][-c][-x][-r][-a mm/dd/yy][-b mm/dd/yy][-f filter] [-i ID[,ID[,...] | -e ID[,ID[,...]]] [-o event source[,event source][,..]]] [-q event source[,event source][,..]]] [-l event log file] <eventlog> @file Execute the command on each of the computers listed in the file. -a Dump records timestamped after specified date. -b Dump records timestamped before specified date. -c Clear the event log after displaying. -d Only display records from previous n days. -c Clear the event log after displaying. -e Exclude events with the specified ID or IDs (up to 10). -f Filter event types with filter string (e.g. "-f w" to filter warnings). -h Only display records from previous n hours. -i Show only events with the specified ID or IDs (up to 10). -l Dump records from the specified event log file. -m Only display records from previous n minutes. -n Only display the number of most recent entries specified. -o Show only records from the specified event source (e.g. \"-o cdrom\"). -p Specifies optional password for user name. If you omit this you will be prompted to enter a hidden password. -q Omit records from the specified event source or sources (e.g. \"-q cdrom\"). -r SDump log from least recent to most recent. -s This switch has PsLogList print Event Log records one-per-line, with comma delimited fields. This format is convenient for text searches, e.g. psloglist | findstr /i text, and for importing the output into a spreadsheet. -t The default delimeter is a comma, but can be overriden with the specified character. -u Specifies optional user name for login to remote computer. -w Wait for new events, dumping them as they generate (local system only). -x Dump extended data eventlog eventlog
  5. At work i have set up Questsofts BigBrother. But they are not free. I also know there are a lots of scripts you can use to do almost what you want here. Microsoft technet got some scripts you might want to take a look at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcen...t.mspx?mfr=true And microsoft sysinternals got some tools. this might be what you need? PsLoglist The Resource Kit comes with a utility, elogdump, that lets you dump the contents of an Event Log on the local or a remote computer. PsLogList is a clone of elogdump except that PsLogList lets you login to remote systems in situations your current set of security credentials would not permit access to the Event Log, and PsLogList retrieves message strings from the computer on which the event log you view resides. Or if you got the support pack?, there is a Event Log Management Script tool (Eventlog.pl)
  6. As my dad was an engineer for IBM from the early days, iv had a lot of strange stuff around. As far as i remember, my first computer was a Tiki 100 Manufactured by Tiki Data of Oslo, Norway. The computer was launched 1984 under the original name Kontiki 100 <snip from wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiki_100> '100' in the machine's name was based on the total KB amount of memory. The computer was based on the Zilog Z80 CPU, and featured: * A full-travel keyboard integrated into the computer case * A colour graphics CRT interface with palette, supporting 3 different graphics modes with 240, 480 or 960 by 256 pixels with 16, 4, or 2 simultaneous colours respectively in 32 KB of dual ported memory. * A TV interface * A AY-3-8912 polyphonic sound generator * One or two integrated 5ΒΌ inch floppy disk drives * Two RS-232 serial ports * One Centronics printer port * 64 KB of RAM (main memory) * 32 KB of graphical memory * 8 KB of ROM </snip> But the one i remember the most, was the Compaq Portable III. My first "laptop" or a computer you could move around.
  7. Don't think i can live without my 10/10 Mbit/s fiber with no limit. And here in Norway i have to pay around 50 USD for it pr. month :)
  8. The Community Edition of clarkconect is free. But you can use what distro you like ofc. Edna also runs on windows with Python/Win32 extensions :)
  9. always sad to hear about users wo have to change back to windows. anyways, here is some information about the subject: http://blogs.gnome.org/sragavan/2008/01/21...e-2007-preview/ -SETone
  10. yes, G-stress i understand your problem. But if you want a service like this, without have to pay a lot for it, you should look at the open source scene. http://sourceforge.net is a nice plays for searching. But you will find that most are for nix systems. Maybe this project can be a nice time for you to get more into Linux? :) if you got a old box laying around, that you don't use anymore. It can be a nice linux server. Its always best with a dedicated server also, so you still can play around with your vista box without making problems for the jukebox server. If your not that used to Linux, a distro like Clarkconnect can be a good start. http://www.clarkconnect.com/ It got all you need right out of the box. So after the install you got a running server with all needed services. Just send me a pm if you need any help. Or send me a message on IRC. Cheers
  11. True that your Internet connection might be a problem for streaming videos. But these days most ppl have no problem streaming music. Some years back i had about the same idea about my music. Why not just put everything on a box and set up a streaming server. And then i found http://edna.sourceforge.net :) It took me less then 5 minuts to set it up, and been working like a charm for years now :) A update every now and then, but been stable and i never had any problems with it. mini howto: 1. Create a directory in /home mkdir /home/mp3 2. Go into the directory and download edna wget http://edna.sourceforge.net/edna-0.6.tar.gz (To see if its the last version, please check http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=18761) 3. Extract the downloaded file tar -zxvf edna-0.6.tar.gz 4. Go into the fresh directory and edit the edna.conf vi edna.conf and change it for your needs and settings. 5. Create your jukebox dir mkdir /home/mp3/albums 6. Set owner of the folder to nobody chown -R nobody:nobody /home/mp3 Remember to do this after you have added some files. 9. Start your server cd /home/mp3/edna ; sudo - u nobody python edna.py & 10. Add files to your /home/mp3/albums directory Use whatever you want to upload your music to the /home/mp3/albums directory There ya go, you have a edna streaming server up and running. -SETone
