RioSDE
Hey guys, I'm relitively new to Network Security and hacking in general. Although I am an IS Major at my local college and I have learned some things on the matter, I don't feel as though it is helping for the direction I am trying to go towards. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to start? Any books, websites, tutorial links would be helpful, especially pertaining to setting up my own Pentesting Environment. Decoy
This is an excellent site. Lots of great (free) information from trusted sources. There are also free VMs with real life scenarios in them for you to test your skills and knowledge throughout the process: https://pentesterlab.com/bootcamp Also - Offensive Security has put together a nice page as well that will walk you through Metasploit - and includes a vulnerable VM, "Metasploitable": https://www.offensive-security.com/metasploit-unleashed/requirements/ Once you've learned all you can - VulnHub is one of my personal favorites for some could old fashioned CTF Fun: https://www.vulnhub.com/ Good Luck! I have to say if your IS program is a useful program (teaches server administration and the networking standard, CCNA) and not some IT administrative program, then you're definitely on the right track even if you don't feel that you are. Those two sides of the coin are the gate keepers, hacking isn't its own thing. It's the misuse of THOSE two things.
