It is possible to get a reliable VPN tunnel out through a proxy.

The OpenVPN Client needs to be configured with the following directive:

http-proxy YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY 8080

Once you add this in with the IP Address and port of your proxy, it should be able to connect. How do you add this? Simply add this line to the OVPN configuration file and re-upload it.

You should now be able to connect to the tunnel via the proxy. If not, check the error logs to see what is being reported.

I don't know personally, but i see examples using a user pass file combined with the http-proxy

http-proxy [name of the proxyserver] [port of the proxyserver] [textfile with login data, username and password in two lines, if necessary]

I had to bang my head against the wall for days to figure this out. Actually your solution saved me, however you need to make sure that you place that line between the connection tags
