Connection problems and Confusion

Greetings one and all.

I have a Mark iV and it was working a while ago and I have just got it back out and now it is not behaving.

A few things may have changed in the ensuing time (new versions of Linux, windows etc) a new broadband provider and I am a bit older and some of the brain cells may have died.

So I have followed the instructions in the book and have the following set up

Linux - ububtu 14.04 LTS running 32bit (this is a small note book machine)

mk IV is running 2.8.1 firm ware

I have a verbatim 16GB USB drive (with 2 partitions)

I have run wp4.sh

wifi adaptor (wlan0) on notebook is connected to home network and I can connect to internet via browser

Ethernet (eth0) is setup as 172.16.42.42 to communicate with mk IV

MK iV is 172.16.42.1 and I can connect to it via the browser using 172.16.42.1:1471 )I have a cat5 cable plugged into the POE/LAN port)

All was seeming good at this point.

Now the fun stuff starts.

When I click reveal public ip I get "Error Connecting"

When I click check for update I get "Error Connecting. Please make sure you have a working connection!"

When I try and get a list of infusions I get the same error.

Things I have tried

I did a factory reset of the MK iV

I tried connecting the MKIV to my network via the Lan Port

I tried tethering it a windows laptop running windows 10 following the instruction in the book and guidance from the internet (got the same results)

Like I said I had this working before but I am obviously not doing something.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, got the same problem...

I did the same configuration steps like u.

I have the seriously problem that i can ping outside servers (e.q. 8.8.8.8), but i can't forward the http traffic or get a positive message from "reveal public ip" or "check for update".

I connected the WAN port with the internet and the PoW/LAN port and the Wifi with my mac.

Additionally I configured the internet sharing options on mac to let the USB-Ethernetadapter (PoE/LAN port) use the wifi internet connection. But it doesn't helps.

Maybe there is an issue with the routing table?

I would be appreciated aswell if someone got help.

Please search the forum for OSX ics help. It's not very straightforward, as Apple keeps changing things.

Best regards,

Ok some more info.

I have setup the Mk IV as a Wi-Fi hotspot and connected to it using my mobile phone. I can then browse on my phone so there is obviously a connection from the MKIV through the notebook an out to the internet.

So the question is.....why is it still telling me no connection when I try and get to the pineapple Bar, upgrade or reveal public ip.

Have I missed something? or are the MkIV servers no longer functioning.

the function "reveal public IP Address" can be found in:

root@pineapple:/pineapple/components/system/network

cat functions.php

there you can see, that by clicking on the web GUI on the Link "Internet IP: Show" you trigger a java script calling this function in functions.php:

if(isset($_GET['internet_ip'])){
  if(online()){
   echo file_get_contents("https://wifipineapple.com/ip.php");
  }else{
   echo '<font color="red">Error Connecting</font>;
  }
}

I think, the point is that https connections don't work, see my post here: https://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/37929-suggestion-how-to-fix-https-connections-on-ap-121u-based-mk4-pineapple/

performing a

curl https://wifipineapple.com/ip.php

from a standard linux desktop gives you your public IP Address ... so this script is working fine ... but requires a https connection ...

(1) the php function "file_get_contents" seems to need some kind of wrapper to support https (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1975461/how-to-get-file-get-contents-work-with-https) and

(2) wget, which is used in opkg update, comes from busybox which also does not support https connections

So, I believe your pineapple is working fine, but the backend was migrated to https connections only ... which are not supported in MK4 models so far
