So I was trying to configure SSL with my NANO and somehow I ended up bricking it haha
I can still ssh to it. but can't access the web interface anymore, and the led doesn't work nor the radios. Plus the storage is full for some reason. so every time I try to edit something...I can't.

Please help guys!

Hi, I am having a similar problem, I can't access either the web interface or SSH, my pineapple is detected in dmesg but I can't talk to it... I tried the physical reset but no luck... any ideas?

Hello,

I just received my pineapple today and was trying to set it up, but all I get is the blue light blinking 2 times and then turning off, I can't ssh into it or access the web interface. It seems that I received a broken unit or else I might be doing something wrong, followed the instructions but I can't get the light to go solid on the pineapple. I tried connecting it to my Linux box and I can see it appear in dmesg.. it almost seems to me there is no firmware on it..?!

Any ideas on how to get it up and running?

No worries, I think I was still asleep when I wrote this post, Finally managed to get to the default IP and proceed with the firmware loading (192.168.1.1 for anyone wondering), after loading the firmware, the pineapple rebooted, and I connected my android device to do the config with the app, now I am at the initial configuration page, all is OK!

Hey, I'm having the same problem as PK_420. Got my nano today and I was in the middle of upgrading firmware and bam... power cut. The first time round everything was going according to the "WiFi Pineapple NANO: Linux Setup" video. Now, when I plug in the nano, I get one short LED flash and a 4 second LED flash. PK_420, are you getting the same thing?

$ lsusb

$ ifconfig

Not sure why I am getting IPv6... is it supposed to be? :wacko:
I cant seem to SSH in or access the web interface. Held the reset button for 6 seconds with no luck.
$ ssh -6 root@fe80::2c0:caff:fe8d:7bdd%eth2
ssh: connect to host fe80::2c0:caff:fe8d:7bdd%eth2 port 22: Connection refused
I can ping it and get replies though (ping6 -I eth2 fe80::2c0:caff:fe8d:7bdd)
Any other ideas? :sad:

Your lsusb and ifconfig indicates that the NANO is seen by your computer -- you're just lacking an IP address from it. Try the following command:

sudo ifconfig eth2 172.16.42.42 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

Then SSH in or hit the web interface.

Failing that try the web recovery method:

1. Download the latest WiFi Pineapple NANO firmware from https://www.wifipineapple.com/nano/

2. Hold down the reset button while plugging the WiFi Pineapple NANO into your computer

3. After a moment, release the reset button

4. Set a static IP address on the WiFi Pineapple NANO Ethernet interface to 192.168.1.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0)

4a. Linux: sudo ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

5. Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1

6. From the recovery web interface, click browse and select the file downloaded in step 1

7. Click update and wait 5-10 minutes as the WiFi Pineapple flashes the firmware. Do not interrupt power during this time.

Darren, the next time you're in the UK I owe you a pint or few!!

The first method kept reverting back to IPv6 for some reason but the web recovery method worked a treat.

And there was me thinking I had created a paperweight which I could ping every now and then to make sure it's happy.

Thanks for the help and speedy reply!

This worked for me https://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/37210-just-bricked-my-nano-howto-unbrick/?p=270359

When Darren says wait a moment - I instead counted to 10.

The firmware should be d/l from http://wifipineapple.com/nano/upgrades/1.0.3

to save reinstalling 1.0.1, and it bricking via the further update(s

I managed to press and power up.I get a solid blue light (SBL)..I don't see the radios transmitting. I unplug it and let it restart and it goes back to blinking.

I'm sure the Nano is in some mode while in SBL, but how do I access it now?

Where is the "WiFi Pineapple NANO Ethernet interface"?

Where is the "WiFi Pineapple NANO Ethernet interface"?

-LM

The Ethernet interface on the nano is the USB ASIX, when you plug it in your computer you should notice a new 'Ethernet adapter' :

On linux it will manifest as a new ethX device, where X is, I guess the highest eth number you have since it is most likely the last you plugged in, (you can confirm it is detected with lsusb)

On Windows, you'll see a new 'Local Area Connection', I renamed mine to Pineapple to find it easily...

What you need to do is : press the reset button while plugging it in, wait for your SBL then setup its IP to 192.168.1.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0) and follow Darren's post and all should go well,

Awesome!

That worked, I just didn't realize the USB to Ethernet connection. I'm doing this on a tablet and it worked out.

Pressed the reset while plugging in and configured the USB ASIX Ethernet connection to .2. Then I navigated to .1. Loaded the latest .bin and BOOM.

Remarkable device.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem.

My Nano power light comes on for a second goes out for a second, comes back on for 3 or 4 seconds and goes dark for good. I tried the reset fix by holding the reset button while plugging in the Nano. The light then stays on, never going through the blink light booting process.

I originally expected to use this on my Nexus 6p phone [Google Project Fi]. I thought maybe USB to USB-C does not work on the Nano. I tried a Windows PC with no luck in getting the PC to recgonize the Nano. The Nano power light flashes once and goes dark.

IS there something else I can try? Defective Nano? I have tried to get the Nano to be recognized on one desktop, three laptops and my cell phone. Nothing sees the device, out of ideas on what to try.

If you plug the NANO into a Linux box, what's the output of the "lsusb" and "dmesg" commands?

I have been unable to get any of my devices desktop Win 7 pro, laptops running Linux or cell phones running Android to recognize my Nano.

The only device I have not yet tried is my MacBook Pro 2013. The videos examples showing how to configure the Nano show using two USB ports. I can only use a single USB port on my MacBook Pro. I do have a Pineapple Juice 4000 to provide power. Is it possible to setup and update the firmware on a MacBook Pro? I can install a VM if that helps.

I have run out of ideas on how to get my Nano to be seen. When I power up my Nano the blue ligh lights for 1 second, goes out, comes on for 3 seconds, goes out and stays out. If I reseting the Nano, the blue light will remain on until the power if removed and it gos back to the original behavior.

Did you ever get any output from lsusb/dmesg?

Is linux in a VM? If so, did you connect the device to the VM. Mine shows up in Parallels as device "Ax88..." something.

You'll only need 1 USB on the MacBook. It should put out enough juice to keep it on. Mine does.

I soft-bricked mine too the first day I got it. Not sure how. I think I remounted a partition as read-write or something and started getting the LED behaviour you're describing. I had to use the web-restore Darren describes on post #10 of this forum topic

EDIT ----> NOTE I HAVE MY NANO WORKING :) .. Thanks for the input.. I was able to get it running under a Kali 2.0 VM

------------ Below no longer needed ------

I had not tried Linux on a VM yet, I just installed a VM and made some progress.

I installed Parallels on my MacBook Pro 2013. This configuration of Linux is the first oe that seems to see the Nano

I received the following output from lsusb and dmesg

I have not had an opportunity to get the output of the above commands on my other devices. I can try those at another time.

I may have found at least part of the problem. The route seems to be missing. I may have to do a route add?
