Just been browsing the hackaday site.

This little project may be fun and useful, it is a battery powered wifi throwie

As described in the comments there, this project is a *LOT* better as a concept when combined with a solar panel. Even if it means it only works while the sun shines, that's still far better than working until the battery runs out, at which point it's just another piece of waste stuck in a hard to reach spot.

powered either way, still a cool small form wifi ap to play with

If this could be used to extend a network, would be much more useful. I think a solar powered one would be pretty cool either way though. Wonder if they can be used to put up around you home perimeter to keep external wifi users off the network as a kind of honeypot. Would need a bunch of them at the perimeter of your property to mess with attackers, helping to add noise to your location.
