What? Backtrack 5 is only 1.9 gb iso! Were did u get this idea from? If your talking about adding it to Katana or hirens cd list then maybe its to large! I'm using Unetbootin and putting multiple .iso's to drive and all the tools for editing windows of course I will have to install the windows .exe this way ,but admin wants it to be clairvoyant. So he can see edited files and tools used. We always suspect any Tool Downloaded from internet to have a possible virus or trojen horse. So Admin leaves tools on His computer.

No, you don't. An 8 gig stick will work just fine:

http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/index.php/Persistent_USB

Read my post again. It will install on an 8GB (with persistence) but you will not have the storage for updates.

Also I am not sure of the differences between BT5 initial release and BT5R2 in regards to footprint. I would assume the BT5R2 has a bigger footprint due to updates and more tools vs the BT5 "vanilla" which that was originally based off of.

From my BT5R2 VM

root@bt:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 15G 13G 1.1G 93% /
none 480M 220K 480M 1% /dev
none 498M 8.0K 498M 1% /dev/shm
none 498M 52K 498M 1% /var/run
none 498M 0 498M 0% /var/lock
none 498M 0 498M 0% /lib/init/rw
Shared 465G 92G 373G 20% /media/sf_Shared
root@bt:~#

I didn't even update it today yet to keep it current. :P

I was always under the impression you can install updates with persistence enabled. I am about to try anyways, I'll report back.

Yes, persistence gives the ability for updates, but there is literally no space on the drive to fit them.

I installed BT5 "vanilla" on an 8GB USB and it fit with persistence, but attempting updates would fail and performance was terrible due to the full drive. BT5R1 and R2 are bigger and most likely will not fit with just the base install.

As you can see from my above post, it is using 13GB on my VM with BT5R2 updated from R1.
