Is there something wrong with the reputation system on these forums? Or am I really that bad?

I think it was just people not using the reputation system. I think your reputation is better now. I didnt know of the reputation system until you brought my attention to it. And I did Like all the suggestions on the Post.

Yeah I just checked my reputation status and its now a lot better than it was before, I was just asking since that caught me off guard and was wondering why.

I never noticed it before, it was probably just recently enabled. I could have sworn it wasn't there before.

I am pretty sure it was but it was either never used or enabled properly.

How can we tell what caused us to get rated? I don't necessarily care WHO, but I would like to know WHAT prompted a rating. How can we "improve" if we are spanked but not told why...?

I may be wrong but I think they rate us based on the content we post.

Yeah, I understand that is the purpose of the green + and red - on the lower right corner of posts, but when I reviewed several of my more recent posts they show 0. Undoubtedly I should look harder, but I would like to know what constitutes rating down a post or what the implications of the rating are. Not too worried about it, just curious.

Good point, I hope a moderator or someone can help clarify that.

I was wondering the same thing. I saw i'm -1

wtf?

Right now my reputation is really down by -17. What's really strange is that, some users reputation has remained in the green for a very long time and the value hasn't changed.

I think there is something very fishy going on out there.

Meh its a system that can be abused, but lets try and embrace it. I have been going over some old posts and giving people +1 where I find they have brought something to a table or made a positive or negative but constructive comment to some thing that I have brought.

It's actually a really complicated system. If some one likes a post they "+" it, if some one doesn't like it they "-" it, Or they just do nothing.

Bit of a revival here, but I see this issue still has not been resolved. Kinda odd that more than half of the people on this website have a negative reputation, when they are the ones posting and helping out others.

Reputation is given to you (+/-) by users. I think users get 5 per day.

Yes I know what it is, but why are so many users loaded with negative reputation, when I have rarely seen a negatively rated post. Is it part of an automated system as well? It looks somewhat like it's being abused, people going through and negatively rating the first post they see and moving along. Weird, oh well at least it doesn't truly effect anyone.

At least to me, not sure if the reason I can see it is because of Admin.

Well, if you see its people posting more often, even with negative marks under their name, but you found their posts useful, you can always +1 someone to balance that out, or, from a different point of view, take people with negative remarks as people to watch, as maybe they are the ones who have something worth reading, if people are taking the time to vote them negatively. I'd say the negative review of people it arbitrary, and only shows who is getting the most readers and replies from people. Whether or not their posts are worth their merit is up to each individual, and I think a voting system doesn't reflect whether the person has anything to offer. If we restricted posts based on only those who got positive reviews, everything would probably be all rainbows and unicorns and our avatars would probably be cute little kittens...this is the internet. Not a Democracy.

Zero on my end, maybe it's just me.

Yeah, still the massive red mark on someones page labelled 'BAD' can easily be mistaken as "avoid this person at all costs" to new comers, maybe they should re lable that to content rating or something. The whole idea is just kinda pointless in my opinion.

I never noticed it much either until someone -1'd something of mine and my reputation went from neutral to bad. After I noticed, it seems like everyone started to use it right after that, but If I htink back to a few years ago, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it then. I think the flaw with the system is the tendency of people to only pay attention to it when they don't like something you said, and to ignore it the rest of the time.
