Hello everyone,

I am new to hacking field, but my interest is growing every day. Currently I am playing around with man-in-the-middle attacks, but I want to extent this with wifi hacking. I tried KisMAC, since I am using a MacBook, but it takes ages without packet injection. This is why I want to buy an external wireless USB adapter suitable for Mac's and packet injection.

So my question is: what is a suitable (and affordable) USB adapter for packet injection? It has to work on my MacBook with BackTrack 4 emulated with Parallels 5.

I read that Atheros based adapters do the job, but I could not find the chipset at the technical specifications of the adapters. I also noticed the adapters that Hak5 and other educational movies use, but most of the movies are from last year and perhaps not compatible with Mac OS X. Lastly, I want to add that I prefer Linksys adapters.

Some say the 5dbi antenna is better. Some say 9. I have 5. Whichever you think would be best.

Thanks for your fast reply MTCONE. I realise that I made a mistake in my description: I prefer a dongle over an adapter because it is easier to transport. I assume that the following Alfa Dongle does the job too?

Nevermind. I did some research and I found out that the AWUS036NEH is not supported by BackTrack. I will stick to AWUS036H, although it is a lot bigger.

That's the only version of Alfa wireless card that seems to work well with backtrack 4

The AWUS036H is easily the most well rounded and well versed wireless device for wireless pentesting. Almost every platform supports it and it's chip is closest thing to "working out of the box" with injection as you can get compared to almost every other chip on the market.

You can also get it at Wal-mart, Radio shack, and probably Best Buy.

I bought this as my first wireless card and I love it. It works perfectly in Backtrack4 for injection and as a general wireless card it's terrific. The only problem with it is that it will overheat and crash doing heavy stuff like Packet injection. This is because Netgear doesn't know how to make a case and all the heat stays in the thing. I suggest scoring the edges of the case so you can remove the shell when you want to do anything heavy.
I personally just cut away the case and threw it away since this is hanging on my wall most the time.

It might not be the best card out there but for anyone looking for a cheap packet injection card this is the one.
