Atheros NHA rebooting when turned on

Hi,

I am new to Pineapple and have been pretty successful setting it up, however with one big exception:

I am unable to use both internal and external(USB) radio at the same time without NHA powering down and back up.

I have seen this might be related to power issues, however I am running both USB powered hub and power brick when testing this.

lsusb output:

lsusb Output
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0781:5571 SanDisk Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n

Sometimes after the boot I can't bring up wlan1 :

root@Pineapple:~# ifconfig wlan1 up
ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device
This can be usually solved by replugging the NHA into the usb.
root@Pineapple:~# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
wlan1 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
eth1 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn Mode:Master Tx-Power=27 dBm
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:on
If I add another client interface via Network manager or try to set up client connection on WLAN1 via the wireless_connect.sh script the WLAN1 interface dissapears:
root@Pineapple:~# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth1 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn Mode:Master Tx-Power=27 dBm
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:on
eth0 no wireless extensions.
br-lan no wireless extensions.
lsusb still sees the NHA but LED is not flashing anymore.
Any hints? I have no idea where to go next.

Hi,

I have the usb hub from Hak5 shop connected to usb charger with red port and connecting only sandisk cruzer fit 4gb as secondary swap partition and Alfa NHA external usb antenna and pineappple connected to brick and when I turn on anything on wlan 1, the interface goes down and led on NHA stops glowing.

What can be wrong with my set-up?

Seems odd... Have you tried a reflash??

Ok, now I am able to start up both antennas!!! reflashing solved it hehe I was going crazy over it..

Any tips on how to force wlan1 to connect to my own AP via network manager? thanks..

Rakim

Glad to hear you got it fixed! Mark the thread solved. as for the bridge, I am sure thier is a thread on that. Use the search function.

In case somebody finds this topic:

Make sure there is no power leaking from the USB hub back to the pineapple as this can cause a lot of stability issues.

To test this, plug in the (powered) usb hub into unpowered pinneaple, if it turns on you need to cut the red wire feeding the power from usb hub back to pineapple
